Eldritch Embraces: Putting The Love Back In Lovecraft
Dragon's Roost Press is at it again. This time we are taking on the master of cosmic horror, H.P. Lovecraft, and perhaps the most frightening topic of all -- love and romance. We have put together a collection of 31 short stories from some of the best authors currently writing horror and dark speculative fiction. Now we need your help with production costs.
As with our previous anthology, Desolation: 21 Tales for Tails, a portion of the proceeds of all sales will benefit the Last Day Dog Rescue Organization, a volunteer group which saves dogs from high kill shelters and those which sell unclaimed animals to research facilities. The canines are then fostered by volunteers until they can be adopted into their forever homes.
Financial Magic
We will be releasing the anthology simultaneously in physical and digital formats. For the physical copies we will be using Amazon.com's Create Space Print On Demand Service. The digital release will be on Smashwords which will allow us to market to Kindle, Nook, iBook, Sony, and other e-readers.
Our goal is to raise $2500. This will cover the costs of production including expanded distribution which will allow the anthology to be ordered in brick and mortar bookstores as well as on-line. It will also cover a nominal, 1 cent per word, payment to the authors whose work will be featured in the anthology (writers like to eat too!), as well as contributor copies for the authors and copies to sell at conventions.
Our stretch goal is $4000. This would allow us to raise the pay rate to a professional 5 cents per word, pay for cover artwork, and promotional materials.
Why We Do What We Do
Every day unwanted animals are euthanized or sold to research facilities where they suffer unspeakable horrors. By creating this anthology we hope to create a continuous revenue source for an organization which saves animals from this fate. By helping fund this project, you will be helping volunteers who foster animals in their homes until they are adopted. These volunteers feed, shelter, and socialize the rescued animals as well as make sure they are vaccinated and healthy.
On top of helping animals in need, you will also be supporting a group of amazing authors. Dragon's Roost Press is dedicated to bringing the best dark speculative fiction to light, and the stories in this anthology are no exception. They run the gamut from horror to humor. In addition to digital and paperback versions of the anthology, you also have the chance to receive other amazing perks including ornaments, custom artwork, clothing, and even pajamas!
