About me.
My name is Ellyn Oliver and I’m a singer based in Glasgow (but originally from Aberdeenshire). I moved to Glasgow to study Business, but after I graduated five years ago I decided to to use my voice more in the way I felt it should be, and became a self-employed, freelance musician.
I’m thankful to have spent the last five years maturing and developing, singing for and working with many other great projects and singer-songwriters such as New Scottish Hymns, Origin Scotland, Yvonne Lyon, David Lyon, Steph Macleod, Allan McKinlay and Satellite Worship. I also make a living juggling many other music-based jobs including teaching vocals in schools (with the wonderful www.PopUK.org) and performing with my wedding band, The Avenue (www.theavenueband.co.uk).
My goal.
For many years I have talked about recording some of my own work, and I'm now just about ready to give it a shot! I'm starting small by doing an EP, just five songs to give them each the time they deserve and to give me a taste of how to go about it all. I'm thankful to have been given the voice that I have and find it a real privilege to share it and connect with others through music. My goal with recording these tracks is that they will help get my voice out there even more. I'm also hoping they will help to be a springboard to eventually recording an album at a later date.
These songs are ones I’ve written or co-written with friends, and are taking shape to be in a pop/neo-soul/blues style. I'll also be recording my own cover version of the gospel song ‘Wayfaring Stranger’.
I am excited to be working with some incredibly gifted people. I'll be recording most of it in the studio of my friend, Gus Stirrat of Solas Sounds, and will also be working in collaboration with another friend, Sam Gallagher of EssGee Productions. The wonderful Simon Kennedy and Miroslaw Hodun (of The Simon Kennedy Band) are also heavily involved in helping me record and shape the songs.
What I need.
To record the five tracks it's going to cost me the guts of £3000, perhaps more.
Here's what i'm budgeting for -
- Recording, mixing and mastering - £2000
- Musician payments (most of my generous pals are doing it for free!) - £200
- Artwork/headshots - £150
- CD production - £500
- Distribution (on iTunes, Amazon etc.) - £50
- Marketing and promotion costs - £100
What you can get!
Here's a taste of some of the treats you can have if you generously support me...
- (eternal gratitude from me)
- MP3's or a hard CD copy of my EP
- A singing lesson!
- A personal video message + performance of a song of your choice
- A private living-room or band concert (UK only!)
If you are unable to contribute financially, you can totally help support me in other ways - i'd really appreciate it if you could share this page on social media or email it to a friend!
Thanks for all the ways you already support me, and thanks for giving this a read to the end! I can't wait to get these songs recorded and share them with you.
