Welcome, Hello!
Hi everyone, my name is Emma Claire Gies. I've played violin my whole life- classically, in rock bands, exploring Hungarian gypsy and North Indian Hindustani music. Now I live in Boston where I play in several musical projects, teach music lessons, and am completing a masters degree in Contemporary Improvisation at The New England Conservatory. I feel a disconnect between the harshness of our human world and the intimate delicacy of our individual human experiences. I hope to bridge this gap with my music.
What Is Done In Love
The album is all set and ready for ears! I recorded What Is Done In Love at Broad Street Visitor's Center in Atlanta, GA with Jared Pepper, and Ben Price of Studilaroche mixed the album. Many talented musician homies played on the album, allowing it to truly bloom. There are 7 songs, all of which explore my boundaries of expression. One is rather experimental.
The album's creation was made possible by endless collaboration, friend-rates, coffee, happy mistakes, and a whole lot of love. There are two beautiful music videos, one made by Susan DiRende for Ballad of The Longtime Mother and one featuring some amazing dancers for It's Alright. Here are the links for those:

The Plan
I'm planning to print 1000 CDs- physical, beautiful artifacts you can hold! I'm doing this Indiegogo campaign to raise the money to do just this. As well as covering the costs of printing, the money raised here will pay for the graphic design work for the CDs, album art, and monetary recognition of those who contributed to the album videos. Any additional funding raised will go towards reimbursing myself the recording costs.
The Ask
So... there are some perky perks for you all to choose from. Preorder the album ahead of time (digital, CD, or both), claim Macki's art piece as your own, or let The Flower Pistils, my duo project with Micah Huang, serenade you at your own personal house concert.
I hope you'll listen to this album in some form or another. I made it for you and listening is what it's for. Contributing to this project will allow me to show up to shows with something to sell. Contributing to this project will stick it to the man (take that Spotify!). Contributing to this project will show your support for independent art.
If you're feeling what I'm saying, please pre-order the album and share this page/ music with your friends and family! Also, please get in touch and share your thoughts with me- on violin as a songwriting instrument, on the state of things, or on the current happenings of your favorite house pet.
Thanks and Love
Emma
