We are seven Doctor of Physical Therapy students who will travel to the Dominican Republic
March 1-7, 2015 to participate in a short-term service-learning trip. We will
see patients at a rural medical clinic and do home visits in order to provide
much-needed physical therapy treatment to individuals in this community. We
would be so thankful for your support.
By helping to
underwrite this trip:
-
You are
becoming an active participant in a community of care that extends further than
any of us can know. By supporting us in our efforts, you help us to pay forward
the benefits of our education.
-
You are
providing us with an opportunity to work under the guidance of qualified
instructors and medical personnel with real patients who need physical therapy.
-
You are
supporting a clinical experience that is contributing to our development as
skilled clinicians and educators. Therein, you are a partner in our education.
In order to
provide an optimal level of care, it is our hope to raise funds for the
following expenses:
-
Medical
supplies: $1000
-
Transportation
costs: $400
-
Excess
baggage charges for the supplies we will bring to each location: $75-$100 per
bag
-
Funds to pay
for the self-reported needs of members of the community. In the past these have
included hand sanitizer, infant/child blood pressure cuffs, personal protective
equipment (i.e. latex gloves), vitamins, etc.
We have
already made a commitment to fundraising for our trip through bake sales, t-shirt
sales, and other smaller scale events. It is through this website that we are
reaching out to our family, friends, and community and asking for further
financial support. We are setting a minimum goal for our Indiegogo campaign of
$2,500.
If you would
please consider a contribution—in any amount—we would be grateful for your
help. You will have the satisfaction of helping provide physical therapy
students with a wealth of real-world clinical experience and making a
difference in a community that needs your help.
Our campaign will run until
February 24th. We thank you very much for your consideration and your support!
