WE'RE THE LAST ONE STANDING!
You may have heard about the new movie Dallas Buyers Club starring Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, but did you know that there is only one remaining buyers' club in the United States? The New York Buyers' Club used to serve alongside other Buyers' Clubs like those in Boston and Houston. NYBC is the only one left--but we are still here! We are a member-operated and supported non-profit co-op.

We provide life-sustaining supplements and evidenced-based health information for people with HIV, hepatitis and other chronic conditions. Complementary and alternative therapies, ranging from antioxidants to herbs, are vital options too often overlooked in today's prescription-happy society, but well documented on our website. If NYBC disappears, decades of accumulated knowledge may disappear as well.

HELP US FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT!
We urgently need your help to raise $10,000 by December 1, 2013. With your help, we can reach our goal. Our
mission is to provide education and outreach about not just living but thriving with chronic disease. With HIV, managing antiretroviral (ARV) side effects can be challenging. In the short term, they can cause diarrhea, nausea, psychiatric effects and harm the liver. Over the longer term, they damage bones and kidneys, increase blood lipids, alter body fat composition, increase heart attack risk, cause peripheral nerve damage and a host of other problems. Other illnesses present similar challenges. How can people survive and thrive? Our members know that many of these supplements can mitigate many of these symptoms.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS ABOUT WELLNESS AND SUPPORT

This past March, you may have attended or heard about one of our events, “HIV & Aging: Living Long and Well” with Steve Karpiak, Ph.D., which offered many eye-opening perspectives on the challenges faced by the growing population of HIV+ people over 50. Your support will help us to hold a follow-up event as well as future events for 2014. Funds are needed to help us to:

  • Resume publication of our SUPPLEMENT newsletter
  • Redouble our efforts in posting to our blog, which summarizes scientific studies in plain language
  • Prepare more frequent Tweets, Facebook and other public media
  • Continue the research and review of data and journal articles
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH KNOWLEDGE
NYBC is committed to an evidence-based approach to treatment. This work requires a great deal of research covering a wide array of topics. We share with you that evidence on the benefits, limitations and potential problems of the supplements may confer. The information NYBC strives to provide is designed to help people make INFORMED decisions about whether to use or not use any particular supplement. Our bottom line is working to provide a longer, healthier life, despite not just HIV, but other diseases like hepatitis C. Most of us are people LIVING with these infections ourselves!

You can read the feature article about NYBC in the April 24, 2013 issue of Gay City News: “HIV+ Wellness Can Be a Cooperative Push.” The article discusses the crucial role of a non-profit co-op like NYBC in helping people survive and thrive through the AIDS epidemic.

PLEASE MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TODAY!
Remember, your contribution to NYBC is tax-deductible because we are a 501c3 nonprofit. We are the ONLY remaining buyers’ club for people with HIV/AIDS in the USA. Thank you for your donation to keep us going and growing.

From all of us at The New York Buyers’ Club - Thank You!

(NB: NYBC is unaffiliated with Dallas Buyers Club, the movie, its producers, affiliates or cast, though we saw a preview and quite liked it the memories it evoked of that era--that is STILL just as turbulent and terrifying for millions the world over.)
