SOCIÉTÉ NOUVELLE BRIQUETERIE DE MARTINIQUE is a company located in Martinique in the Caribbean. Its main activity is the production of building materials.
In partnership with an ecological brick machines manufacturer , we decided to build a structure to produce these new building materials. The raw material that we will use is a subsoil rich in sand that stands out for its many properties.
As SNBM manager, I own several hectares of land on which this raw material is found in abundance.
With a team of construction professionals, I have a project to build a manufacturing unit that would allow us to have a production capacity for export.
What are the benefits to build an energy-efficient building?
Green building materials do not pose a risk to ecosystems. These are materials which are exempt of toxic components for humans, fauna, flora, the environment and contribute to the comfort of the habitat.
Balance and harmony with the environment are the main premises defended by bioclimatic architecture, a way of living sustainably, taking care of the environment and respecting it.
Big investments are not necessary, it is enough to exploit the natural resources offered by nature.
Working principle
In ducts that are not concreted, air columns are formed, creating a heat removal system and reducing outside noise.
The wall exposed to the sun absorbs heat and heats the air ducts. Agitated and lighter, warm air molecules rise and are evacuated.
Cold air with a higher density takes place in these ducts, resulting in a cooler indoor temperature. A difference of 17°C has been found between an outside temperature of 38°C and a temperature inside a building built with this system of 21°C.

To be eco-material, a material must be part of a global sustainable development approach both in terms of its components, its manufacture, its implementation and its recycling.

The main characteristics of an eco-material
A material can be said to be ecological or bio-sourced if it meets the following criteria :
-The environmental and energy impacts of its manufacture, implementation and recycling are low or neutral (grey energy).
-It's sustainable.
-It is easily recyclable or reusable.
-It is healthy and does not have a negative impact on the health of those who make or use it (workers or craftsmen) as well as those who use it (inhabitants of a house).
-It is manufactured locally and costs little in transport.
Living sustainably
BIOCLIMATIC BUILDING : The criteria for guaranteeing comfort in a bioclimatic construction depend on the quality of the materials used, their absence of harmful emissions, their ability to regulate solar gain and the management of the essential renewal of indoor air.
BIOCLIMATIC ARCHITECTURE : Choosing a bioclimatic building means making the most of the conditions of its environment. Bioclimatic architecture uses specific construction techniques to better manage natural resources.
COMFORT AND HEALTH : Bioclimatic architecture is a method of construction that exploits as much as possible the natural circulation of air and solar radiation in order to maintain pleasant temperatures, promote natural lighting, reduce energy requirements and control humidity.
CHOICE OF MATERIALS : The choice of materials is fundamental in this type of construction because the materials used will have an impact on the overall ecological balance of the building, energy savings and the comfort of the occupants.
Eco-material is a building material whose main raw material is a subsoil rich in sand.
The bricks fit together perfectly. They can be laid with PVA glue, standard mortar, polymer mortar, craft mixes. Laying is fast, convenient and results in clean, waste-free construction sites. All of this makes sites easier and quicker to manage. Concrete ducts Ø 9 cm integrated in the walls allow a good load distribution.
The bricks can be laid more quickly thanks to the chamfers that allow them to be interlocked and are perfectly aligned after laying, making it easier to apply the plaster. Bricks waste are almost non-existent.
The construction of pillars and other chaining can be carried out without formwork. The need for materials such as concrete and iron is reduced.
Bricks are ideal for use as pillars, columns, walls, etc. The buildings are completely structured and the 9 cm diameter ducts formed during the laying process allow the passage of vertical irons which, after concreting, form an extremely resistant unit.
The ease with which the bricks are laid makes it possible to erect a column in a few minutes, avoiding the need for formwork and moulds. In the end, these are columns with a beautiful finish and high resistance.
The ducts that are created during installation and that are not concreted allow air to pass through the walls, causing thermal comfort in the case of high temperatures. These same ducts insulate and protect from external noise.
Coating application : The wall can be covered with a thin layer of coat or plaster because it is already well aligned.
The main activity will be the production and marketing of ecological bricks for energy-efficient buildings, which will add a small contribution to the global environmental protection activities.
The needs :
This activity kind requires a large investment with adequate machinery and equipment.
The project consists in creating a structure which will allow to have a production capacity for export, 10 production lines.
The needs are as follows : Hangars, hydraulic presses and production equipment, extraction and transport machinery: hydraulic excavator, loader, conveyor, handling equipment, crane-truck.
We want to market our products in several countries with prospectors and allow them to participate in the financing of the activity.
In their region, these people will be able to contact wholesalers and distributors of building materials, DIY stores, hardware stores, etc.
With the shipping company CMA GGM, we are planning to export to several countries.
Prospectors will have a range of tools:
- Leaflets and multilingual brochures already created, informing about the advantages of an ecological construction, to download.
- DVD with information and videos about the different stages of ecological construction.
We offer people the opportunity to invest in this project. They will receive in remuneration a percentage of the turnover achieved. This remuneration will be paid into a PayPal account or another online payment method.
The assets of this project are several hectares of land owned by the contractor on which the soil is rich in sand.
As the manufacturing process does not require the firing of bricks, there will be no impact on the environment and no pollutants will be emitted into the environment.
