EQUAL ACCESS TO JUSTICE FOR ALL IN MARYLAND
Donate to PBRC:
The Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland’s mission is to close the justice gap in Maryland and provide equal access to the legal system for all people.
In most civil cases, including home foreclosures and tax sales, child custody battles, consumer abuse, and immigration, access to a lawyer is not a guarantee.
Thus, many poor families, seniors, veterans, at-risk youth and other under-served Marylanders risk losing everything when they do not have access to legal resources or a lawyer who can help them.
At PBRC we directly serve these individuals, neighborhoods, and other non-profits by enlisting and training volunteer lawyers to offer free legal help. PBRC ensures that people save their homes, keep their families together, gain safe and secure living arrangements for their children, and collect essential disability and veterans' benefits.
Stop the cycle of injustice – donate to PBRC to help Marylanders escape the cycle of homelessness, poverty, abuse, and injustice.
Your donations also support our direct services in the following projects:
Tax Sale Prevention: PBRC offers immediate legal advice to low-income homeowners who face the sale of their homes based on as little as $750 in back taxes or water bills. Through community legal clinics, homeowners can also receive referrals for related services (e.g. tax credits, etc.). Seventy-four (74%) of the clients assisted in the last tax sale season were able to save their homes from tax sales.
Consumer Protection Project: PBRC helps working class Marylanders who are disproportionally poor and are likely to be taken advantage of in cases with alleged debt. We represent them in court and help them out of fraudulent claims, and/or to set up payment plans to avoid losing their homes and possessions. In over 85% of these cases, a volunteer advocate means they will prevail or have a favorable settlement.
Unaccompanied Children Project: PBRC engages volunteer lawyers in advising unaccompanied children fleeing abuse and neglect in their home countries and finding them safe homes with relatives here. We also connect them with agencies who can represent them in court and help them gain legitimate status.
Family Mediation Project: PBRC coordinates free mediation services in contested custody cases to empower families to work out reasonable agreements without unnecessary court time and cost.
Veterans Benefits: PBRC works in partnership with other agencies to secure service-connected disability benefits for veterans, many of whom end up homeless or living in poverty.
Your donations are tax deductible.
PBRC is the only statewide nonprofit organization with the mission of ensuring equal access to legal services through volunteerism.
