Equality Wins!
From August 15 to September 8, you can head to our campaign site EqualityFTW.org to donate and receive some delightfully nerdy and awesome perks for supporting Equality FTW. During these three weeks, be on the lookout for videos from favorite vloggers and wizards alike. We’re going to be teaming up with some awesome people to help us reach our $50,000 goal and we’re counting on you to be one of them!
Just like Harry and Dumbledore fought for equality amongst magic users and muggles, we too are fighting for immigration reform, LGBTQ rights and equal access to education. Our Equality for the Win fundraiser is a drive to raise $50,000 so that we can strengthen our fight to equal the playing field. With your donation and your help we can launch a year of equality based campaigns to fight the dark arts of inequality.
We are Wizards. We are the Equality Generation.
So what is the Harry Potter Alliance anyway?
The Harry Potter Alliance or HPA is a non-profit organization that uses parallels from the Harry Potter novels to inspire fans to act as heroes in our world. The HPA is run almost entirely by more than 60 volunteer staff and 85 worldwide community and school chapters. Using social media and our partner networks, we have a reach of more than one million people. These vast connections allow us to act as a Dumbledore’s Army for the real world, reaching to fans across the globe to enact real change in our communities and our world.

Where will my money go?
We hold these truths to be self evident that all men (and women, and undocumented Americans, and children, and...) are created equal. Regardless of where you’re from, who you love, or how much money you have, we believe that we all deserve the same rights and opportunities. Over the past 7 years we have rallied for equality, donating over 90,000 books to communities across the world, breaking phone banking records with Massachusetts equality and took the world by storm with Julian’s Muggleborn American video, getting over 10,000 views in one day.
But we’re not done yet, witches! What if we could:
- Build a network of Imagine Better Libraries connecting students across the world with the magic of books and launch a new curriculum of myth-based education.
- Educate members and the public about immigration reform, standing with undocumented Americans around the country.
- Expand the fight for Marriage equality into three new states - Maine, Maryland and Minnesota.
- Help our chapters bring the fight for equality into their hometowns and states by building our chapters network and providing the resources they need to bring the fight home
We can do it, but we need your help! With $50,000 we can change the face of equality across the world. Join us by making a donation today!
Anything else I should know?
Please stay tuned for more exciting announcements! We are really honored to work with the many leaders of our community who have stepped up to partner with us in this most important effort, amongst them, John Green. Here is a full description of the perk which he has generously donated, available above.
The first section of John Green's unfinished, abandoned novel THE SEQUEL, which is a sequel to a novel that doesn't exist called THE ODD AT SEA. About the story, John says "THE SEQUEL contains a lot of the ideas that ended up in THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, although it's a very different kind of story. I worked on THE SEQUEL between 2008 and 2010 before finally putting it aside. There is of course a REASON why I abandoned it: It isn't very good. But it has some moments I still like, and I'm hoping seeing a draft like this will provide a window into one writer's process. And of course I want to raise some money for the HPA!"
THE SEQUEL is the story of a young woman named Hannah al-Hajji who finds herself alone in the world after the novel in which she is a character ends. Everyone else in the novel disappears, but she for some reason is left with us. The story costars a young student chaplain, recently graduated from college, who happens to have read the novel that Hannah was a minor character in. The selection is 6,437 words long.
Another partner who has been overwhelmingly generous is Evanna Lynch. Below, we are excited to bring you a preview of the Phoenix handcrafted by Evanna herself!
