Protecting people and sharks with non-lethal tech
Ocean Guardian, Powered by Shark Shield Technology, are the world leaders in electrical shark deterrent technology. In fact, we make the world’s only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrents – for real.
Our products provide peace of mind for ocean lovers around the world, while supporting the conservation of marine life by removing the need for shark nets, drum lines, and shark culling.
Government approved and developed over two decades of research, our patented technology creates a powerful three-dimensional electrical field which causes safe but unbearable spasms in shark’s short-range electrical receptors, turning sharks away - including Great Whites. Nothing is more effective.
Our existing products are primarily used for surfing, diving and kayak fishing, and for years we’ve been asked to bring a convenient handheld device to market. We are so excited to finally bring that product – the eSPEAR - to fruition!
Small, lightweight, easy to carry and backed by 20 years of research, the eSPEAR is perfect for spearfishing, diving and snorkelling. Simply attach the optional holster to your dive belt, or clip to your swimsuit or trunk and go!

WHAT DIVERS SAY ABOUT SHARK SHIELD TECHNOLOGY
Elyse Frankcom
“My name is Elyse Frankcom and I work as a professional snorkelling guide on an Eco-tour for swimming with wild dolphins. Safety is a big issue of course as we take many passengers into the ocean! I had an amazing experience with Ocean Guardian - Shark Shield Technology. I was free diving with dolphins, I didn't have my unit turned on and was recently attacked by a 3-metre Great White Shark! My first reaction was to punch and then try pushing the shark away while a very brave passenger pulled the tail! I remembered my Shark Shield wasn't on so I immediately turned it on and the shark dropped me and swam away as quick as it came!
I believe that if I didn't turn the Shark Shield on, I would not be alive today! The Shark Shield saved my life as well as everyone around me in the water. Never again will I enter the water without my unit turned on!”
Elyse Frankcom was 19 year old snorkel tour guide when she was attacked by a 3.7-metre great white shark while leading a wild dolphin swim near Perth, Western Australia in 2010.
Ian Gordon
“I’ve been involved in testing the Shark Shield Technology for over twenty years and there is no doubt about its effectiveness. I have tested the technology extensively with many species of sharks, including Great Whites, along with testing a very early proto type of the eSPEAR as a hand held shark deterrent. As you can see in the video testing with Oceanic White Tip Sharks it was very effective in deterring the shark.”
Why Indiegogo?
We’ve launched this Indiegogo campaign for 2 important reasons.
The first is to get the awesome new eSPEAR to market in time for the northern hemisphere summer and in a range of cool colours to suit personal preferences.
The second is to raise funds that will allow us to partner with one of Australia's leading universities in developing game-changing long-range shark deterrent technology that has the capability to replace inhumane shark nets around the world whilst protecting ocean users from the risk of a shark attack.
What do you get?
A sweet deal on the world’s first handheld electronic shark deterrent, the eSPEAR, and the opportunity to help rid the world of environmentally harmful and inhumane shark nets and drum lines.
How you're helping the environment?
The aim of our new long-range technology is to increase the shark deterrent electromagnetic range by developing new transducers with the capability of creating a deterrent level electromagnetic field at longer distances, ideally 30-50 metres in radius. This project has significant environmental outcomes with the potential for this new shark deterrent technology (the LR5000) to be used on beaches around the world in place of shark nets, drum lines or shark culling. Shark nets and drum kill thousands of innocent animals annually.

Imagine a world where you don’t see images of dolphins, whales or turtles in shark nets. A world where you don’t have to read statistics on the heartbreaking by-catch of shark nets and drum lines.
This is a huge opportunity for shark human management and ocean conservation, and we invite you to join us on the journey.
Other Ways You Can Help?
