ALTER EGO: our story and our brand
We are makers of acoustic and electric string instruments. For twenty-five years we have been committed to delivering the best sound and playability experience to the traveling and studio musician.
This campaign is to launch our new line of acoustic electric upright basses: the EVO line.
In the past two years, we have been working hard to design a new hollow-body acoustic EUB that is the most portable travel bass while keeping all the acoustic features of the traditional double bass. The EVO bass features a sound board in red spruce and a chamber of resonance. Compared to our very much loved acoustic EUB, we reduced weight by about 30%.
We now need your help to make it the most affordable EUB by ALTER EGO.

EVO weights about 30% less than our lightest EUB.
- Its alloy structure is engineered for sustaining the highest string tension of a double bass.
- Its upper bout parts are removable to fit in a compact travel bag. They adjust for a perfect individualized ergonomics while preserving dimension and proportions of a traditional instrument.
#EVO is acoustic
EVO is traditional woods where it matters.
- Its soundboard is in select red spruce from Val di Fiemme. A fine crafted neck in maple and smooth fingerboard make EVO very comfortable to play.
- The use of regular strings and a traditional bridge combined with a multi-source modular pickup system give considerable tonal versatility for each musician to create their own sound.

ALEXANDER HOHENEGGER, the designer
When Alexander started, in 1991, he was a music student and wanted to solve a personal need, common to many players of large music instruments: he wishes he could have an instrument, reduced in size, that was the alter ego of his own cello.
In his company, Alexander let musicians have a leading role in our design vision. The classical instrument is and remains the gold standard; the ALTER EGO instruments expand on it thanks to their features and modular concept.
It was a trial-and-error process, and today, after so many years of research and development, the ALTER EGO instruments with their sound board are the closer you can get in terms of sound and playability to the classical instrument we departed from.
