Summary
In the last few years, the purchasing and usage of the e-cigarette has rocketed! Last year alone sales of e-cigarettes in the UK increased by 75%, swiftly overtaking nicotine replacements. But yet there is still debate surrounding whether this is a suitable alternative?
Two years ago my mum gave up smoking, as a replacement she has been using an e-cigarette. Public Health England published a report last year stating that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than smoking. So this must be a good thing right?
Vaping has developed into its very own subculture, for some it's a hobby. With varying shapes and sizes of devices, it is becoming a huge market. But yet there are still stories being reported of e-cigarettes exploding and in some circumstances causing injury to people.
This concise and punchy 15 minute documentary will explore how the devices themselves work, the diversity of the evolving e-cigarette market and affects of when they go wrong.
What We Need & What You Get
To make this film the best it can possibly be, I am asking for £500. But where is it all going to go?
Coverage is key to make this story a success, therefore being able to talk to people in locations around the country will be incredibly important. The budget will therefore be spent on the following:
- Fuel and travel costs for the production team.
- Providing food for the production team and cast.
- Accommodation for the production team between shoot days.
- Music and archive clearance fees.
Any donation no matter how small you would be able to make to this project would be hugely beneficial.
The Impact
Evolution of the E-Cigarette will provide an alternative perspective to the debates that are being reported in the media, finding out stories from the people themselves. You will help open up a new debate around the e-cigarette. It's been reported they're better for our health, but at what risk does this come? As a documentary filmmaker I love investigating stories that are close to home, and I hope you will share as much interest in this area as I do.
Challenges
This is such a topical subject. For some people this may seem like a subject that is overdone, however, in my mind I still have many unanswered questions. We need to get the coverage and the stories that are going to clear the smoke on this still very clouded subject. Therefore your funding will be key to opening up these stories to the rest of the world.
