The Story of My Book

My name is Claire Navaro Krawsczyn and I am the author of Expectant Entrepreneur. This book started as a simple idea: to document my experience as a woman who was simultaneously growing my family and my business. Today, Expectant Entrepreneur is so much more than that. It captures the stories of women across the world who experience the challenges, thrills, hardships, loneliness, and victories of what it means to be a mother and a business owner--and the unique characteristics of women who choose to be both at the same time.

My hope is that, in reading this book, you will discover that there is an enormous and welcoming community of women in the world who deeply understand what it means to be an Expectant Entrepreneur. Through this book, I hope to share the stories and triumphs of other women who have decided that they can be successful business owners and amazing mothers. And, ultimately, I want you to see this book as a tool to help you confidently plan your own maternity leave within your business.

In this book, you'll learn about how the women who came before us created a world in which women can be both mothers and business owners and the unique characteristics of mother-business owners:

  • The Unique Challenges of Expectant Entrepreneurs
  • Hallmark Characteristics and Shared Stories
  • How to Be an Expectant Entrepreneur

You will love this book if you are, or you support, a bold woman who isn't afraid to be both a mother and entrepreneur.

Expectant Entrepreneur is a non-fiction book that speaks to mothers and entrepreneurs who are looking at expanding their businesses while also growing their families for the first--or fifth--time.

The Book - Expectant Entrepreneur

The book is written in four parts....

Part 1 contains the introduction + and Chapters 1-4. In this section, called “How We Got Here,” we outline the path of women through modern history that created the opportunity for today’s Expectant Entrepreneurs. Part 1 opens up the cultural significance of entrepreneurism within the context of feminism, independence, and motherhood.

Part 2 contains Chapters 5-15. Throughout this section of the book, “What It Means to be an Expectant Entrepreneur,” we hear from dozens of women across the world who share their own stories of motherhood and entrepreneurism. Through their experiences, we explore some of the hallmark characteristics that these women share in an effort to explore what it means to be an Expectant Entrepreneur. Chapters 5 sets us up to understand the context of Chapters 6-15, each of which explores a single characteristic that unites business-owning mothers across cultures and countries.

Part 3 contains Chapters 16-19, which reflects my own personal journey as an Expectant Entrepreneur. I had both of my daughters, now 4 years old and 7 months old, while also growing my business into a sustainable, stable six-figure company. Preparing for my own maternity leave was a challenge, and through voice memos, notes, journal entries, and more, I documented my journey in an effort to share my experiences with other women.

Part 4 is the Fourth Trimester, or, the conclusion of Expectant Entrepreneur that encourages women to connect and build a community around our individual perspectives of our shared experience.

A Note from the Author: Claire Navaro Krawsczyn

This book surprised me. It’s existence alone feels like a surprise: I wrote every word, and yet I cannot believe that it exists!

Less than a year ago, I was planning for the arrival of my second daughter with my husband, Adam. Our first daughter, AJ, is the sparkliest little girl I’ve ever known, and I was thrilled to have another little girl in the house. At the same time, I was completely overwhelmed. Somehow, I needed to figure out how to grow my primary business, Verano Marketing & Communications, enough to pay for my family’s needs, cover medical bills, pay my team, and keep clients delighted, all while also giving myself the time, space, and rest I wanted as a new mother.

Owning two businesses is a challenge on any given day. Owning two businesses while trying to create a financially viable maternity leave was a special kind of obstacle. I searched for resources, people, and stories to learn from and help me figure out how to make it all work. Was it possible to keep my businesses thriving while I was not involved? How do I make it happen with limited resources, a small team, and no back-up plan in place?

Expectant Entrepreneur started as my own experience navigating this special time in mother entrepreneur’s life: the window of time leading up to a self-funded and self-created maternity leave. In the end, it evolved into so much more. It’s not my journey alone. This book became a collection of the stories of remarkable women in different types of businesses from across the world. Their willingness to share openly, honestly, and without reservation is something I will be grateful for for the rest of my life.

My hope is that through this book, I can connect women, their businesses, and the people who support them by sharing the experience of what it means to be an Expectant Entrepreneur.

Risks & Challenges

The biggest challenge with publishing a book is delivering the finished book to you, the backer. I have eliminated this risk by building into the campaign the mailing and shipping costs of your signed copies to you within each pre-order tier.

The risk of delivering the pre-sale copies of my book is contingent on the publisher we use. I will be working closely with New Degree Press to make sure we get the earliest possible ship date of the signed book copy to you. We will keep all pre-sale backers up-to-date as my book hits each key milestone and publishes. You will know when the copies of my book you pre-ordered are expected to ship.

Other Ways You Can Help

Trust me: I know how it can feel when budgets are tight. If you want to help but can't financially contribute, it would be amazing to offer support in other helpful ways.

Please Share my Pre-sale Campaign on Facebook (Tag me! @clairekrawsczyn), Instagram (@clairekrawsczyn), and LinkedIn (/in/clairekrawsczyn) with your friends, family and network. Please use #expectantentrepreneur and tag me as well as my publisher, New Degree Press, so we can help amplify your efforts.

You can easily share my Pre-Sale Campaign Page via Indiegogo at the top of the page.

Please share my book to five friends, family members, or co-workers who you think would enjoy it. This is extra impactful if you do this as a text message, email, or direct message on social media!

Thank you so much for of all of your love and support!

Claire
