Somewhere in the world, hidden, sealed, awaits The gate.
The few that know of its existence learned about it only because of its legend.
It is said that it exists from the beginning of time, the planet slowly forming around it, never missing its eternal duty.
Every fifty thousand turns around the sun its seal is lifted, the
latches drop, and for a brief moment, any witness lucky enough will be
able to cross its threshold.
Beyond The gate are hopes. Wishes. Dreams.
All the possibilities.
All the paths.
Beyond the gate awaits unlimited power...
And it’s about to open.

After the Age of Discovery ended and the efforts of the scientific community were focused on documenting the artifacts and places of a lost past, a tiny fraction of archaeologists were carrying their studies in a very different way: disregarding recorded history and focusing instead in their individual discoveries. They carried their activities with unconventional methods
(and a certain lack of common sense) on their way to find some intrinsic meaning, to look where nobody would ever think of looking before, in the hope of discovering unknown parts of history, or, more importantly, correcting what was previously known.
Shunned by their peers
(and for good reason), most of them followed red herrings through all their lives, never accomplishing anything significant.
However, for one particular small group things were quite different.
On a long forgotten altar from an otherwise unremarkable ancient civilization, they happened to find a technology far beyond their comprehension.
With the goals of studying it and keeping it out of public knowledge, the organization SAGA was founded, and they dedicated their lives to it.

Today, several decades later, the artifact's origins and inner workings remain mostly unknown. But they do have a guess about its purpose.
And they want to test it.
You follow Arae who, victim of her own greed, became their unwilling test subject. She is tasked with traveling through different worlds, unraveling the mysteries behind their existence, for science, and trying to regain freedom, for herself.

- The world of Fa'el – Beyond The Gate – consists of a series of interconnected dimensions, each with their own particularities and challenges. Arae can travel back and forth between them, acquiring new abilities that will help her advance and understand their history. (Or as many would call it, a metroidvania)
Exploring every corner will be necessary for the most intrepid players to unlock all the secrets that lie within!
- Arae can also gain access to her Inner World, a metaphysical place that represents her growth, where the flow of time is so drastically different that the outside world appears to be completely frozen.
As her powers grow more rooms and characters will appear within it, giving new insight on the world, access special events and, more importantly, new abilities to help her survive.
It's possible to enter at any time and place so she can, for instance, warp to the Inner World to cover herself
with an energy shield and return to deflect a devastating
hit just at the right moment!
- There are many bosses in Fa'el to surprise and
engage you with different custom special and awesome techniques. Big, small, weird... as soon as you
beat one you won’t be able to stop until you see what the
next has to offer!

- While keeping the amount of mandatory reading to a minimum, we encourage you to have long talks with the NPCs if you want to, learn more about the lore, the events that took place, the artifacts, and the characters themselves. Still, they remain optional to the gameplay.
Although, talking with many characters will help you find and complete more secret quests!
The estimated release date for the game is
June 2015.
It will be available for
Linux,
Windows and
OS X.
The initial release will be in
English, with
Spanish and
Japanese translations to follow.
(All the art and game footage featured is not final and subject to improvement with the addition of an artist to the project)

For this game to become the reality we envision, full‐time work on it is needed.
The main bulk of the funding target comprises my living expenses so I can survive and fully focus on the game until it's complete.
Up to this point, I have been working on the game mostly by myself. But to make it truly shine I’ll also need to hire people to work on cool pixel art, animations and music.
The rest of the funds are for perks and payment processing fees.
