The Story:
Ms. Erin Evans is trying to usher the town of Fairfield into the 21st century. Her medium: the town's annual Christmas pageant. She's decided to share Christ & Santa's stage with nods to Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and the secular spirit of Capitalism.
Her challenges: An ambitious undertaking for a town used to simple tradition. A group of not-so-professional actors, many of whom have...special qualities. An out-going pageant director who still wants to be involved - but her small-minded mentality could shut down the production before it premieres!
Will she be able to pull it off?
About the Writer/Director:
Hi! My name is Laura Pepper. I'm the owner/operator of Peppered Productions, a company I created to combine my loves of writing, photography, art, filmmaking & music. Basically, it's whatever I want it to be.
From making videos for course work in high school, to making very fun, silly faux dating videos, I've gained experience from conception to writing, production, and post production. I have been fortunate in the last couple of years to be on the crew for several local shorts and features.
2013 has been my most ambitious year. Aside from helping on local projects, I added demo reel editing to my repertoire. However, my greatest achievement was producing shorts for all 5 New England 48 Hour Film Projects. To do one is daunting - FIVE is just plain insane. Basically, after receiving a trio of elements you must include, and a genre picked out of a hat, you have 48 hours to write, direct, edit & produce a 4-7 minute film. It is a crash course in virtually every aspect that contributes to making a good film - of any length.
Oh, and did I mention I also have a full-time job?
Yeah. I'm crazy. And ambitious. And ready to make this film!
The Nitty Gritty
This is my first feature, and I don't have studio backing. It's a minimal location venture, using local talent, with a great crew. However, there are still expenses to account for.
Most of the money raised will simply go for food. We're not talking fois gras and sushi - but 30 speaking roles, plus extras & crew are a lot of mouths to feed for the 14 days of filming. We have created a tentative schedule that indicates a $4000 food budget is reasonable.
We also plan to rent a quality camera and lenses - which will cost about $900.
Costuming, props, set design, and incidentals make up the rest of our budget.
Perks!
Yep, we got em. I'm actually really excited about a couple unique to this campaign.
A holiday movie just screams GREETING CARD (signed by cast & crew).
My favorite - I will make a fake dating video for you! It's a lot of fun for me, and the possibilities are endless. Here are links to a couple of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wb0zwhXJZhY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwLuaIbzwcU
