Who am I?

G'day! I'm Alex, I'm a writer, director and actor (but not a wanker) I love making films that are surprising, funny, dark, absurd, satirical, emotional, ridiculous - anything with a great story and a strong point of view.

Since graduating from a Film & Television degree at the VCA in Melbourne, I have had my short films & web series screened at both local and international film festivals, including Manchester Film Festival, Flickerfest, Cinefest OZ, Melbourne WebFest, St Kilda Film Festival, Foyle Film Festival - Derry, Byron Bay International Film Festival, Peninsula Film Festival, Gold Coast Film Festival & Canberra Short Film Festival.

I moved to London in 2023, and in 2024 I began writing the screenplay for what would become 'Fantastic'.

I wanted to write a story about the power of vulnerability, embracing failure, and fighting back against the urge to play it safe, even when we feel like our lives and actions may be insignificant in the world. The duality and self doubt within Earl, is something that we all contend with at various stages of our lives.

I’ve drawn from my own experiences and combined them with imagination to hopefully create a drama that can exist within the romantic comedy and coming of age genres, while feeling specific and fresh. The comedic tone and performances will be naturalistic and driven by a sense of playfulness, contrasting absurdity with sincerity, executed with subtlety and a gentle pace, that allows the audience to feel present in the world of the film.

I’m really passionate about making this a super collaborative film, with a fun and open environment for creatives in every role, ensuring they feel supported to do their best work. I base my process around trust, good communication and not taking myself seriously.

What We Need!

We're asking for an additional £5000 to cover the hire costs of the camera & lighting package. Capturing this story with the highest quality equipment will allow us to present our work at top tier film festivals, and give us the chance to deliver a polished and professional product that can compete with bigger budget film productions.

Along with the listed perks, we have the following titles on offer.

  • •  £5k Executive Producer
    •  £2k Co-Executive Producer
    •  £1k Associate Executive Producer
    •  £500 Associate Producer

All the funds we raise will go towards hiring the camera and lighting package.

Why make this film now?

Personal, real, romantic and comedic stories are able to cut through to the widest audiences. Post-pandemic, we’ve seen several recent examples that prove this content is highly sought after.

Even without name actors and star power, Past Lives worldwide box office was 3.6 times it’s production budget. Normal People reached 62M Views In Record-Breaking Year For BBC iPlayer in the UK alone. Baby Reindeer debuted at #1 on Netflix, and reached 84.5 million views in it’s first three months of streaming.

Looking toward to the smaller scale of the spectrum, Cooper Raff’s debut feature Shithouse was made on a budget of 15,000 USD, and won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW Film Festival, leading to a distribution deal with IFC Films.

Our story has a strong point of view with a specific setting and complex characters, but it’s core themes are universally relatable.

We’re not trying to replicate a formula for success, but believe in the ability of the personal nature of the story, combined with it’s genre elements of romance and comedy (the most watched film genre on Netflix in 2024) to resonate with audiences craving authentic, original and entertaining films.
