'FATHERLESS LIKE ME' is a wonderfully crafted inspiring children's book series -- that triumphs over the difficulties of fatherlessness with heart, faith and soul!
First-time authors', Skylar and her mother, Tonia Grady teamed up to write the 'Fatherless Like Me' book series. The books reveal a bittersweet tale about a little girl from Brooklyn named Skylar, who is growing up without her dad. She's a fun-loving kid that enjoys learning, riding her rip-stick and playing basketball. The books reveal intimate segments of Skylar's life, and captures her personal journey as a fatherless kid. 'Fatherless Like Me: Growing Up Without Dad' was the first book (published in 2012) of the three-part series.
This mother and daughter writing duo used a cup of real life, a pinch of fiction, a dash of fantasy and a layer of fun as the ingredients for this powerful little book series. The reality is…life without dad is hard for Skylar, and she has to learn to deal with the pain and sadness she feels. The books provide teachable moments, that will help other kids learn how to work through their feelings about missing their father.

Where does the money go?
Self publishing is very expensive! Add in the fact that the books are
beautifully illustrated, with lots of color and the printing costs
practically doubles.
The money that is raised will go towards paying the very talented graphic designer. The book covers and almost every page in the books, has incredible artwork and illustrations that brings the story to life! The remainder of the money will be used to print the books and have them shipped.
Tonia and Skylar were extremely proud that they were successful in publishing the first book in 'Fatherless Like Me' series in 2012. The money that is generated from the book sales -- goes directly back into printing more books. They really want to complete the 'Fatherless Like Me' book series, but they can sure use a little help!

Dedicated to uplifting the spirits of fatherless kids
Tonia and Skylar are very community driven! They spend most of their
time engaging with fatherless children, single moms and fatherhood
programs. Making appearances, doing book reading and signings at
various schools, churches and after school programs all over the NY
Tri-state area.
"We received rave reviews from fans and our first book 'Fatherless Like Me: Growing Up Without Dad' has literally changed lives! How do we know this?
We get our data straight from the horses mouth! We've had moms, dads
and children, tell us how much they love the book and the characters.
We've had single moms breakdown crying because the book was able to
reach their child in a way that they could not. Surprisingly, fathers'
who were estranged from their kids have embraced the book, and
understand why it's so important to reconnect with their children." -
