FEEL FLUX is a brand new physics-based toy that amazes and amuses you with its jaw-dropping anti-gravity effect. Whether you’re a a science enthusiast, a juggler, or a design fanatic you’ll find endless fun in playing with FLUX.

Each FLUX  product is a set of two components made of the most exquisite metals on Earth, natural materials, which behave very surprisingly while interacting with each other. One of the components is a metal tube made of aluminum, copper, or even pure silver. The other one is small, shiny ball, made of neodymium, the strongest kind of permanent magnets available on the planet. To get started, just drop the ball through the tube, but be prepared for something absolutely unexpected.

The ball falling through the tube slows down seemingly defying gravity, and does it without any former sign of unusual behavior. You feel no attraction or repulsion between the parts prior to the drop, you don’t see the effect coming and you most probably cannot explain it. Yet.

Design

When we first encountered the amazing effect caused by Lenz’s law as undergraduate students, we instantaneously knew that we need to make a product based on it. Not only did we want to create an experiment tool, but also a design that is a testament on our respect for science, and also enables ways of use which make the effect fun and impossible to get bored of. We wanted a product which lets you understand and feel magnetodynamics in your very own sensual way, and encourages you to take the magic you've learnt and use it to amaze your friends.

That’s how we came up with the final designs of Flux, a fine piece of modern engineering to play with, and a timeless beauty to behold.

The tubes come in multiple materials and different shapes, but each version is precisely turned and comes wrapped in a fine natural leather ribbon that seamlessly blends into the surface of the metal. This cover gives flux a unique and premium look, gives your palm a soft touch and solid grip, and most of all gives you the opportunity to choose your very own set of colors. No matter who you are and how you intend to use Flux, there is a version which is you. The only question is:

Which one is You?

FLUX Original

The first and mightiest version of all is FLUX Original. It is crafted from solid copper, a luxurious and beautiful metal that has an outstanding electrical conductivity. This means that FLUX Original offers the most intense and stunning gravity-defying effect. 

Holding the copper tube in your hands and gazing into the slowly receding reflections on the almost floating ball makes you forget about the rushing world outside. The Science

FLUX is based on a complex, thus rarely known law of physics, a phenomenon called Lenz’s law, which can defy our most commonly experienced physical law, gravity itself. It’s actually nothing new. Heinrich Lenz discovered it in the 1830s, we call it Lenz’s law to honor his discovery ever since.

Every time the magnetic field changes inside a conducting material, it induces a voltage called electromotive force. Depending on the resistance of the material, it creates a current which behaves just like in traditional electromagnets: produces an additional magnetic field. Lenz’s law states that the magnetic field created by this induced current is so directed as to oppose the change in the source flux. To put it more simply, if you create a changing magnetic field by moving a magnet, it will produce a mechanical force trying to slow down the motion. The faster you move, the stronger the force gets. Every time.

The Ball

Beside the beautiful tubes of Flux, the magnet ball you get is a spectacularity itself. 

Neodymium magnets are the most powerful types of permanent magnets available on the planet, and even they come in different strengths of magnetization grades (N35 – N52). The ball you get is a grade N52 magnet, which means it is the strongest magnet humankind can produce – and it’s manufactured just for us. This means you cannot purchase this level of strength in this shape and size anywhere else right now. The magnet can hold a weight of up to 15 kgs, it turns toward north of a flat surface and will even find nails underneath a wooden floor and orbits around them. Its strength is a lot of fun, but as always, great power comes with great responsibility. You need to be aware of the strength and the potential danger of the ball, and there are a few restrictions you should observe.

• Keep a distance of at least 50 cm between the ball and any magnetizable object or other magnets.

• The magnet can produce extremely high acceleration to magnetizable objects or other magnets. This can cause high speed impacts thus injuries.

• Do not put the magnet close to any medical appliances, especially a pacemaker or metal implants.

• Avoid the magnet getting close to sensitive devices especially measurement instruments, precise mechanical clocks/watches, hard disk drives, displays or any electronic devices.

• Neodymium magnets are fragile, and may shatter on high impact. Make sure you play above soft surfaces away from other magnets and attractable objects. Learn more about fragility in the FAQ.

• Never give the magnet to a child without adult supervision.

• Never give the magnet to anyone who is not informed about the aforementioned rules.

FAQ

Q: How can I specify the leather color and the desktop stand design?

A: After the campaign has been finished successfully, we’ll send you an email asking about your preferences in leather color and desktop stand variations.

Q: How can I add the price of the shipping to my perk?

A: Once you've selected your perk, you are asked to set the amount of the contribution. There you see the default contribution value, which can be modified. Just rewrite that number to the one that includes the shipping price (+$20 for most cases) and you're done.

Q.: Does EU shipping mean the continent, or the European Union?

A: Free shipping includes all european countries, even those outside the EU. So it’s free for Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Iceland, and for Eastern Europe as well.

Q: You only give one magnet ball in each reward. Why? Can I get more?

A: We only give one ball for each set, because two of these super-strong neodymium magnets would be capable of producing so strong attractions that would make the set more dangerous. Even one ball requires very careful attention while playing, but we have found this level of risk well below the threshold of being considered as potentially dangerous if you keep the few restrictions in mind. However, handling two balls exceeds this threshold, the two balls can perform a very high speed collision even if careful attention was payed. If you completely understand the potential risk of multiple balls and still want to get more, contact us and we’ll discuss it.

Q: What if I forgot to add the shipping cost?

A: If you forgot to add the cost of international shipping to your perk, you can do it by placing another perk of donation in the same value. In this case please send us a mail to inform us about the separately placed contributions. If you don’t realize you forgot adding the money, we’ll send you a PayPal invoice so you can refund the difference. If you refuse to pay for the shipping, you can chose to set an EU or US address, or get your money back, but in the latter case the Indiegogo and PayPal transaction fees will be discounted.

Q: Are the tubes getting deformed throughout the practice?

A: Skill Flux is made for performing great tricks which comes with numerous high impacts with the ball. For aluminum and copper are being relatively soft metals, the powerful impacts may leave small dots on the surface of the Flux. At just a few dots it could look like damage, but hard-core fluxers will soon have tubes continuously covered with ball marks, which lead to an even more unique and just as beautiful surface. For this we say Flux doesn't get damaged, it matures.

Q: Neodymium magnets are known to be fragile, how about that?

A: Yes, Nd magnets are usually fragile and capable of cracking and chipping. However, the spherical form of the ball makes the magnet durable and less likely to crack. We had numerous drops on concrete and ceramic floor, we even collided two balls several times and still experienced no breaks. But this does not mean that the balls can't crack, be very cautious all the time and avoid dropping the ball on hard surfaces. Play above grass or carpet or anything soft. While you shouldn't expect instant breaks, the coating of the ball is likely to get damaged and that's something you don't want.

Q: Does the copper tube gets oxidized?

A: Yes. It is made of pure copper and behaves accordingly. We did not find any suitable coating that preserves the shiny finish of the freshly turned copper and proves to be durable enough for the ball impacts. As soon as we find out anything useful, we'll let you know and you can decide to take the coating or not. However, many people liked the matte surface better, it also goes well with the leather cover.
