Overview
If you missed Greenlight Night (Scotland's first community crowdfund for filmmakers) here's your chance for a piece of the pie. Following four incredible short film pitches, 'Fertility Daze' won the vote and received the Greenlight. The concept? Eve and Tom want to make a baby. The calendar on their fridge highlights Eve’s five most fertile days of the month – all our couple need to do is have enough sex and leave the rest to biology.

Greenlight Night was a way to take back the creative power from the governing arts bodies that operate in Scotland. It was about getting as many creative people in a room as possible to pick one great idea that deserves to be made. Now we're going to make it.

Who?

Young Filmmakers Glasgow

Young Filmmakers Glasgow are the people behind Greenlight Night. Led by Sean Lìonadh and Olivia Reitala, the creative collective started in coffee shops in 2014 as a way for filmmakers to connect and create and the collective has only grown over the years. With the YFG manifesto as a guiding light, the collective now embarks on Scotland's first community crowdfund. They want to open up their resources to people of all ages and backgrounds. This new adventure starts now.

Daiva IvanauskaitÄ— and Andrew Gunn

This couple turned creative tour-de-force are behind the winning Greenlight Night idea.

Daiva is a storyteller who has recently performed at the Festival of Fairy Tales in Lithuania and at the Scottish Storytelling Centre. She is also an award-winning animator and filmmaker.

Andrew is a writer and director for stage and screen whose credits include film noir featurette Reflections of a Private Eye. Two of his plays have been adapted for radio and a third, Love the One You Hurt, has been optioned for film.

You.

Fertility Daze was the idea that the Greenlight Night audience chose to move into production. We raised an incredible £364 on the night and even more on the Indiegogo campaign that followed.

Now we'd love you to help make the film even bigger and even better.

What?

It’s going to be a hell of a week. Eve’s high-pressure career is just taking off. Tom is unpacking their lives into a new flat. Throw in dodgy oysters, lost keys and mothers who need help with their computer, and our couple’s time and sexual desire are in short supply. They also need to answer some unasked questions about themselves and their relationship.

We aim to deliver a warm, funny and fast-paced film that leaves the audience grinning.

The film will be dialogue-free. This permits a heightened tone and faster pace, and means the story can be understood anywhere without translation. It also gives us an opportunity to develop our understanding and use of old-school, purely cinematic storytelling techniques.

For design and cinematography we’ll have a bright, colourful and hand-crafted look inspired by films like The Science of Sleep and Swiss Army Man. Fertility Daze should feel like a homemade labour of love.

How We Help Each Other.

There's no such thing a zero budget film - the money raised on Greenlight Night will cover some of the expenses, locations, equipment and all of those things you don't see coming when making a film. Fertility Daze is the first ever short film to come from Greenlight Night and we want to do it right. We're looking to make a festival ready piece with visual flair and strong production value.

So in exchange for your contribution, we've created some unique perks for you, the filmmaking community. When designing them, we kept creativity and productivity in mind. From coffee with a BBC Producer to an online featurette promoting your creative project, we want to offer something that will really benefit your own ambitions.

The Impact.

Daiva and Andrew wanted to tell this story after reading about low fertility rates in modern cultures with a work-life imbalance. But the universal story is simply about priorities in a relationship – Eve and Tom have taken their time for granted, and now they need to work together if they’re going to make it count.

We've got a film with a great message and you're contribution will ensure great execution. We want to start a renaissance in Scottish film. Let's kick it off with a wonderful, warm and professional piece of work.
