Hello there!
Im sure that many of you will already know me, which is why you have decided to help me out on my final year Film Making Degree, Graduation Project. For those who don't, but see potential in my Project, hey! I'm Jaymes a Third Year Undergraduate at Kingston University, London.
The film is an exploration of Psychosis of the mind, influenced somewhat by R.D. Laing's The Divided Self. At it's time of publication it was revolutionary in its content and description of how Schizoid and Schizophrenic members of the public were influenced or reacted to psychotic stimuli and delusions. My film, through visual metaphor and dramatic tensions, will hopefully, recreate my interpretation of psychosis and how it has affected my life.
Synopsis
The night was silent outside, in the cold.
Inside, the dilapidated walls peel with paint, and dust lines thickly the floor and sills. A podgy finger reaches up to the sappy lip of a morbid lump, as it taps away at the typewriter in front of him. The Beast grunts and breathes heavily, taking another large mouthful of porridge from a chipped bowl. Its eyes reflect the distance sterile light- as it refracts and bounces from the contraption. Licking its lips, it begins to type again, the mechanical clank- tip-tapping of the typebars.
The filament glistens in the white light, its subtle movement, reverberating through its length, the vibrations disrupt its space, throwing up dust around it. The typewriter clicking in rhythm with the pulling wires. At one end, fixed, hooks that bury themselves in the brain tissue and flesh of an open skull, the white bone that rims the head stinging in the operating light. The purple-grey matter- exposed to the pinging of strings. The face contorts in struggle- he makes no sound, it is not physical pain he feels.
Stepping outside for a smoke, Duncan breathes a sigh, the hot breath condensing before him. The sound of the empty road suddenly fills with the rumble of a speeding car, momentarily, his favorite song plays over the engine sound. Duncan looks on across the car park- his shift was dragging, his jacket doing little to keep him warm. Bringing the collar up around his neck he spots a faint light, radiating from a door which lead to the building opposite his work. He had never noticed a light before, in fact, he had always assumed the building was empty- it always looked run down from the outside. Duncan looks around him, as though hoping to find some sort of explanation for this bizarre occurrence. Nothing but the cold, silent night stares back at him. Curiously he wanders over to the door. As he approaches he starts hearing a faint buzzing- rationally he thinks it must be the electrical hum of the light, a generator.
Duncan proceeds through the door, and realises he is in a dilapidated space, his eyes fix on the light through a gap in a wall. Staring through he sees the bright light of the equipment shining before him. Bringing his vision to a squint he makes out the outline of a body lain spewed on the machines table. Shocked, his body weight moves, releasing the sound of a crack beneath him. A hideous being latches eyes with Duncan, startling him. He remains motionless in the darkness, surely the Beast couldn't have seen him. Turning its head to the side the lump motions to Duncan to come forward. Unsure of what to do, Duncan shifts again, trying not to cause alarm. Again the mass beckons to Duncan. Terrified, Duncan steps out into the light of the room.
A conversation begins ...
With everything you do in life, (apart from sit at home) risks and challenges will arise for you or anyone else expecting to create, live or work; and this project will be no different. The way in which these things are handled is what makes or breaks a person or project. Everything will be done to make sure that challenges are met with an attitude to tackle them.
Many of the risks involved will be minor things such as continuity and professional attitude towards the project. Which will have to be considered and corrected as my role as Director and Film Maker General. Challenges are no problem for us however, as I believe we have a strong team of individuals who will come together when needed and create a decent film, that will stand up and be counted for, and not fall into the realms of mediocrity (here's hoping).
Other Ways You Can Help
Please, if you see something you like here or would like to get involved in other ways, please do not hesitate to pass this on or message me feedback or offerings of help. I must make it absolutely clear, any offerings of help will be greatly appreciated and will be rewarded with a credit in the film.
Thanks for your time.
