Short Summary
A film by Makayla McIntosh & Adam Michael with their production companies, Castle on a Cloud and Candid Life Entertainment, respectively.
Firefly Lane will be shot in Warren, Ohio in the local Mayor's Office as well as on location at various local businesses to help support the economy.
Makayla & Adam met on-set of his short film, Theater 4, and their professional partnership started there.
Adam is now directing his 11th film and is honored to be working alongside Makayla in creating this project with her. He is a local, awarding winning filmmaker in Youngstown, Ohio who is in pre-production for several other projects as well including adapting a stage play into a feature and directing a series in Cleveland.
Makayla is making her directorial debut which will start with something close to her: feminism and the story of females who worked together to lift one another up and change the landscape of politics and examine how Covid19 may have been different if a woman would had been leading the way.
Why? Her mother use to joke that if she wasn’t an actress, she should have gone into politics with her strong opinions and ability to persuade. She deeply cares about the struggle of women to both trust one another and be taken seriously.
For Makayla, as an actor, it is challenging to break into the episodic and feature film world. Many actors graduate with thousands of dollars of debt and broken promises from institutions that if they just go to their school, they would “make it”. It’s not that simple.
They both invest thousands of dollars a year of their own money to meet casting directors, buy equipment, develop footage, hire cast/crews, take class, headshots, career coaches, film festivals, and other ways to put themselves out there. Many professionals leave the business because they find it impossible to break in.

Funding: We feel very strongly about compensating our actors so we will be paying them for their hard work and time. This is not cheap and funding for this purpose alone would go such a long way.

Amount: We would ideally love to reach our goal of $3,000 which would cover our expenses and allow us to be even more creative!
The Impact
Their goal with this short-series is to show the beauty that is created when people are supporting others of all gender, race, and sexual orientation. Firefly Lane was the perfect spin-off as a female-authored, female-produced, female-driven story.
Additionally, they have a goal with this project to gain film market interest and attract investors to finance the full series. In the full series, we will get to know the characters more deeply and gain an understanding of how they find a way to change the landscape of politics through Covid 19, health care, immigration laws and their complexity, equal pay, property, education, marriage, maternity leave, and abuse.
We are hoping to change that narrative. Her acting teacher inspired her to write this film and take her career into my own hands, which in turn, gives others in her life the opportunity to use their craft in a meaningful way.
Our other hope is that this spin-off would be noticed by the brilliant Katherine Heigl (lead and executive producer of Firefly Lane), which would create more opportunities for other actors creating their own work.
