A fan based on radical new aircraft propulsion.
Volerian’s room fan is the result of our on-going effort to create quieter, safer, more efficient aircraft. We’re especially interested in building flying cars; aircraft for personal use that can take-off and land anywhere. Since the noise and danger of propellers would limit the use of such aircraft we created a new way of moving air, from first principles.

It works by oscillating a wing in a specially shaped duct. The geometry of the parts and the motion was refined using hundreds of computer simulations to increase the efficiency. The wing proximity to the duct walls increases the pressure differences created by the flapping motion and the duct shape and downstream static wings recover energy from vortices produced by the wing motion, which increases the efficiency.
The room fan has many of the qualities we hope our aircraft will soon achieve; safety, quietness, efficiency and style. Buying one now will allow you to experience those benefits sooner, as well as contributing to the development of aircraft for a better transportation future.

Funding from room fan sales will help us create new aircraft starting with the development of a ‘Wing in Ground’ effect aircraft, which will be used as a high speed alternative to conventional sea-going ferries.

Our last remaining challenge for the room fan is to design the production version, with great performance, that can be manufactured at scale. We have allowed three months for the design and build of the production prototype in our delivery timescale, with a further three months for actual production. Since our prototypes are performing well, this six month preparation gives us plenty of time to ensure we have a great product ready for deliveries starting in May 2022.

The airflow produced from a Volerian fan is one of the strongest for its size. Good efficiency, and the vertical nature of the ducted wings, mean you get great airflow from a small footprint.

Adjustable static wings can divert the flow to cover a larger area. The broader flow of air means the fan doesn't need to swing back and forth to reach more people, so you can avoid the annoyance of only getting intermittent flow.

Contact with the moving wings is harmless and the cam mechanisms and motor are all sealed away in the base making the Volerian fan safe around children and animals (and adults).

Directing the airflow is easy with a tilting mechanism that can angle the fan upwards. A simple, inconspicuous part located beneath the fan maintains the fan's tidy aesthetics.

The fan uses a brushless DC motor that offers better efficiency than the AC motors used in most fans, and since the airspeed can be changed across the entire power range (instead of the usual 3 speeds offered by most fans) you can find the level you want; from the lightest breeze to a strong wind. Its also easy to clean, taking only a minute to wipe down the easily accessible surfaces with a damp cloth. The latest design has a dark grey interior section with a white outer shell (a render of this can be seen on our website). The dimensions are 850mm x 350mm x 250mm. Details may change.
