Public Works Theatre Company, based in Lafayette, Colorado, creates professional shows for family audiences. Our mission is to create new and exuberant theatre for families to engage our wonder, delight, and curiosity.
Our new show, Flight of Fancy, uses cartoon-like full masks and puppets to bring to life two delightful and eccentric characters who meet in a biodome*: one a lonely puffin seeking a friend, the other a thoughtful girl open to adventure by virtue of her curiosity. Set to a music score, a night of adventure in the biodome unfolds with a puppet cast of animal friends.
*Biodome = cross between a zoo and a natural history museum
You can be a part of our mission to inspire children and adults alike through the magic of live theatre. Our past productions have earned backing from the Jim Henson Foundation, and Fringe Encore Awards in the Boulder International Fringe Festival.
We've been awarded grants totaling $6,000 from the Boulder County Arts Alliance and the City of Lafayette Cultural Arts Commission - which is great and we are grateful! But that only gets us part of the way there to cover our show's budget. We are seeking to raise an additional $3,000 specifically for the following:
We appreciate your help, so we've put together some great rewards for you, including:

The show was conceived by Sondra Blanchard, Artistic Director of PWTC, but as creative collaboration is at the heart of our theatre company’s process, Flight of Fancy will be developed with artistic associate Claire Patton (Quake Theater), who also performs in the show, and director Meghan Frank. The production also reaches across borders, with masks designed and created by South Carolina-based mask maker Vivian Appler, a professor of theatre at College of Charleston. Public Works Theatre Company is also partnering with Justin Hicks and Katie Webster of Denver-based Incite Productions for puppet making and set design (these amazing artists also build sets and props at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts!)
If you can't contribute (or even if you can), you can make a difference in other ways!
The show will have its world premiere this April at The Hive (the performance venue at East Simpson Coffee Co.), 414 East Simpson St., Lafayette, Colorado.
Show dates are:
