The Project
- I am Austin Prario, an NYU senior studying film and television! I have made many short films, comedies and dramas, throughout my filmmaking ventures.
- At its core "Floundering Oblivion" explores the "crying clown" phenomenon. How many comedians are so joyous and full of life on stage but in their personal lives often deal with depression and their own demons. Robin Williams, Chris Farley, John Belushi, Richard Pryor and so many more comedians struggled and continue to struggle with trying to fill a certain emptiness in their hearts.
- In my film Ophelia finally realizes that her daughter is the one true light at the end of the tunnel, and she races to get her back after she was taken away due to Ophelia's drug habits. It explores a deeply flawed character trying to redeem herself.
What We Need & What You Get
- So we are looking for $6,500 to help make this film! The money will be going towards locations and art direction (production quality), top notch camera and lens rentals (professional look), transportation, cast and crew food, a film score, and post-production (editing, sound design, mixing, color correction). This money will help make EVERY aspect of this film.
- PERKS. Now that's what you're all here for. Well with perks ranging from "Five Dollar Foot-Long" to "You Are A God", you can't go wrong. You can get digital downloads of the final film and score, posters for the film, a script with director's notes, personalized drawings, PRODUCER CREDIT, and more. Producer credit? Want to get into the film business? Well here's your chance.
The Impact
- What makes this film unique? With this film I will manipulate with concepts of time and reality. Interweave the sensations of dream with real life so closely that you cannot tell the difference any longer. It will have a surreal nature yet still grounded by a fundamental story about family and reconnecting with a loved one. The story is what grounds us while the form of the piece takes us to places we’ve never experienced.
-
It is a film where you’ll laugh and you’ll cry. I feel some of the best films are emotional roller coasters, emotional exercises. You feel both sides of the spectrum, from joy to sorrow. And a comedian is the perfect subject for such a ride.
- I also wanted to create a film with a flawed yet strong female character as the protagonist. Half the world’s population is female and yet the number of women on screen is severely under-represented, especially characters with depth.
- So a new point of view coupled with pushing the form will create a whole new and enjoyable viewing experience.
- YOU can help us push the boundaries of what is possible in a 15 minute short film!
- I have experience in the short film venue and in pushing the limits of the short form. I have attached my latest film "Side Effects" in the Gallery section as an example of my work (as well as the 1 minute trailer for those with a limited time budget)!
