FLOW: The Film

Flow is a powerful documentary that dives into the world of women in adventure sports—stories that break down stereotypes, challenge barriers, and promote unity through a transcultural feminist lens. Directed by Czech filmmaker Honza Považan and featuring the insights of Denisa Krásná and Alena Rainsberry, this independent film blends breathtaking visuals with compelling narratives to showcase the journeys of women globally in disciplines like whitewater kayaking, climbing, and highlining.

Our film builds on the book's mission by translating its written and photographic content into a dynamic visual experience that resonates with audiences worldwide. From the Czech sandstone towers to the cliffs of the Indian Himalayas, and from the rapids of the Amazon to the rivers, rock, and sky of Canada, Flow explores how women navigate and overcome challenges tied to gender, race, class, and sexual identity in their sports. Our goal is to capture the spirit of Flow, emphasizing the diverse passions and connections of these extraordinary women.

Bringing Flow to the screen is about more than just showcasing extraordinary adventures; it's about igniting a movement that highlights and celebrates the power and resilience of women in sports. With your support, we will elevate these remarkable stories, push boundaries, and create a powerful visual testament that inspires and empowers women everywhere to pursue their passions and lead boldly.

What We Need to Make it Happen

Based on projections, we expect the total budget to complete FLOW to amount to $25,000 USD. The following is a breakdown of the budget's various components:

TRAVEL
The total travel costs for the team + crew will amount to an estimated total of $10,000 USD. This includes flights and travel expenses.

POST-PRODUCTION
Post production costs include paying the editor(s), color grading, sound design & music licensing, and memory storage. We estimate the total for post-production to amount to $5,000 USD. 

EQUIPMENT
While the film crew has the majority of the equipment needed, some purchases are absolutely necessary to ensure top quality visuals and audio. We estimate these costs to amount to $2,000 USD.

MARKETING
We estimate the costs associated with marketing to amount to $2,000 USD. This includes hosting a website, running ads, and shipping perks to our supporters. 

DISTRIBUTION
Distribution is a vital park of ensuring the project is seen far and wide. Our goal is to submit the film to film festivals around the world for consideration. We estimate the total cost to be $2,000 USD.

MISC.
There are always additional costs incurred, especially in indie film. We've budgeted for a $4,000 USD buffer to support unforeseen expenses and reimbursement costs taken on by the producers and crew throughout the project.

Through Flow, we've had the chance to meet some truly inspiring individuals from all over the world. We've made new friends and learned values that have shaped not only how we approach sports but how we see life. This project has brought together women from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures, all united by their passion for pushing their limits and embracing the unknown. What started as a simple dream to document these stories has turned into a celebration of how adventure can break down barriers and build strong communities.

Risks & Challenges

Our team is dedicated to ensuring the film is made, even if we don’t reach our fundraising goal. We’re ready to make necessary adjustments including waiving or deferring co-producers’ personal financial contributions. We might also look at reducing costs in areas like the film score and the overall length to help save on color grading and sound design. Despite these potential changes, our commitment is to deliver a high-quality film and make it the best it can be, no matter the funding outcome.
