WHO WE ARE — G101 Productions
G101 Productions is a collective of Black and Latinx independent Harvard filmmakers attempting to tell their stories through short films and scripts. We are asking for your help in funding our first script and launching our production company. The group, formed by Harris Scott, Abdeljaleel Ismail, Francisco Cernada, and Ethan Ambrose, was created with the goal of fully writing, producing, and directing short films centered on the experiences of people from underrepresented backgrounds. However, given the sheer cost of producing shorts, filmmaking is often too costly for low-income, first-generation college students like ourselves.
As much as we enjoy writing or filming, the lack of diversity in the entertainment industry severely limits our ability to bring our stories to life. There is little room for Black and Latinx screenwriters and directors in entertainment. According to the 2020 UCLA Hollywood Diversity report, 1.4 out of 10 writers and 1.5 out of 10 directors are people of color. The glaring lack of diversity in these roles undoubtedly makes it more difficult to have our scripts and projects noticed. Working in an industry where entry-level roles are often underpaid, aspiring writers, directors, and creators like ourselves simply cannot afford to pursue our dreams without support. All the money raised in this campaign will be used to help finalize the filming and production of our LA-based short film, FOOT IN THE DOOR.

Last month, all members of G101 Productions moved to LA to work on the short film, FOOT IN THE DOOR. Since June, we have finalized the script, secured locations, formed a production company cast actors, and created a shot list for the movie on our own dime. In order to produce a high-quality final product, we need financial support to help fund costs like equipment rentals and post-production.

FOOT IN THE DOOR is a short film that combines the absurdity and gore baked into the plot of movies like Reservoir Dogs (1992) with the aesthetic appeal of youthful features like Dope (2015). The short tells the story of two college students’ plans to kick start their business venture by stealing a pair of notoriously expensive Air Jordan sneakers at a house party in a wealthy neighborhood. Despite successfully obtaining the shoes, the duo ultimately finds themselves in danger when they attempt to resell them to a shady and intimidating customer.
Beyond the plot, the short also hits on some key themes and concepts that we elaborate on in our pitch deck included above.

WHAT WE NEED
Across the board, we have contributed over $2,000 of our own into this project. However, we need support to help cover the rest of pre-production and post-production. The entire movie is ready to go. The estimated costs are listed below.
Pre-Production (car rental for set, equipment rental, casting costs, sound, lighting) ~ $2,500
Post-Production (Editing, Mixing/ Sound Design, Color-grading, distribution) ~ $4,500
Our goal is to reach at least $7,000, With this money, we would be able to fully produce the film and send it to a series of film festivals, managers, and agents. We plan to keep all donors informed about plans for distribution.
