The Story

In Afghanistan, honor means life or death. A woman can be seen as a prize or shameful burden. Arman discovers this as he attempts to maneuver himself into an engagement with the independent and modern Roya. Arman’s traditional mother Wasima objects to Roya on principle.  She wants a daughter-in-law to stay at home “where she belongs.”  Through some white lies and a little manipulation, Arman succeeds in getting his family to agree to this union. But days short of their union, Roya’s honor is put into question. She suddenly becomes a social outcast. In Afghanistan, where reputation is everything, Arman must choose to defy his family and society to be with the woman he loves.

How It Resonates

This story will offer the world a window into the cultural complexity of Afghan society.  There is no shortage of films that depict Afghanistan as a country teeming with war or poverty.  This film will be unique in that it is about real Afghans and their day to day struggles, hopes and dreams. It aims to shine light on and challenge some dark aspects of the region’s customs and practices. Hopefully this film can be a tool to encourage open-mindedness and show the value of love over intolerance.

For Honor has great potential to inform and educate. We will use this film as our tool in two ways: Firstly, by showing this film in Afghanistan (and other countries) to as many people as possible to encourage change in their beliefs of adverse customs. Secondly, by showing it to those everywhere who can support and help bring that change to the voiceless.

We aim to screen this film everywhere - from the most prestigious of film festivals to the tents of small villages - in hopes of changing lives.

What We Need

We have the majority of our budget put together, but we need your help to get over the hump.  We still need $9,200 for essential parts of the production such as wardrobe, lights, set design, et cetera. We’ve been working hard to fulfill our vision for the film, and with your help we can make an exceptional film.

Here is a graph of the percentage breakdown for what specifically we need the funds for:
