We are the visual novel development team Remnants of Mosaic. We have been creating games since 2020, and since then we have already released three visual novels — Gear of Glass: Eolarn's war, Mysteria of the World: The forest of Death and The Apple Tree. We create visual novels of various genres — from dating simulators to detective stories, from kinetic novels to novels with choices.
Our last novel (The Apple Tree) was released in December 2022. Forest of Death Masks is its sequel, a novel with a tense plot and a variety of endings. You will once again immerse yourself in the story of Police Captain Christian Tyler, a female detective from the quiet town of Cronford. And if “The Apple Tree” was a kinetic novel, then our new game will have choices and different endings.

Visual novel video games are text-based adventure games that combine interactive fiction and art to give the gamer the experience of reading a novel in a visual format.
A visual novel game often combines elements from other video game genres, including RPGs, dating sims (simulations), and mini-games. Visual novels have the following characteristics:
1. Advancement: Players do not guide a character the way they would in a traditional video game. Instead, they advance the story by clicking in targeted locations to refresh the text.
2. Complexity: Some visual novels become quite complex, with multiple branching storylines that take the player down completely different paths depending on their choices. These games can have multiple endings, too, determined by the exact choices you make in the game.
3. Interactivity: Visual novel video games do involve some interactive elements, although the focus remains squarely on the storyline. The gameplay allows the player to determine in which direction the main character’s story should progress, enabling the player to feel involved in the narrative.
4. Storyline: The appeal of a visual novel comes down to the story being told. Traditional video games often have a serviceable story, but there is not much depth to the characters or the world. A visual novel goes as deep as a traditional book, which means that the player gets all the same satisfaction as they would if they were reading prose—which, technically, they are.
5. Text: A visual novel video game has large text boxes on the screen that show the prose as the story progresses, with backgrounds that depict the scene at hand. The experience is akin to reading a comic book, in that there are visuals and a narrative, but there is much more text on the screen than on a comic book page.
In Forest of Death Masks, you will find a fascinating story, seasoned with art from the artist Keaneash. Your money will be used to pay for her work, so at the moment the art in the novel is presented in the form of AI-created images. They will be replaced in the release version of the game.
After the scandalous case of serial murders in Cronford, Christian Tyler found herself in a difficult position. There is never one side of a coin—and the title of the local heroine was instantly mixed up with the dubious details of the solved crime. The police station was besieged by journalists.
That is why she is now standing under the scorching sun with a suitcase in her hands. The Corcante Embassy has requested an invited investigator to solve the case of the kidnapping of a well-known businessman, and who better than a local heroine is suitable for this role.
But the darkness that lives in the captain's head has not yet completely weakened. And in this strange, abandoned place, surrounded by miles of forest on the one hand, and the endless ocean on the other, it breaks out with renewed vigor. The predator is on her heels, and Christian will once again have to maneuver on the brink of life and death, trying to overcome her demons.
Forest of Death Masks is a sequel to the visual novel The Apple Tree, but also an independent work. Make the right choices to solve the mystery in the sunny country of Corcante, and try not to die in the process!
Our screenwriter JenLS-ZA is responsible for the text part, and the visual part is represented by the artist Keaneash. It is to pay for her art that the collected amount will go, as well as to pay for the services of a translator.

At the moment, the demo version of the game uses images generated by AI. In the release version of the game, they will be replaced with Keaneash's art.
The release version of the game will have 20 sprite packs and 25 CGs.
You can already play our game! To do this, we have specially prepared demo version for you. You can download it here.
Demo duration: ~2 hours.
The risks are minimal. The entire text component and the code are ready, it remains only to add drawings. The game will be released on Steam by the end of 2025.
