Overview
Everybody knows what it's like to lose someone. It's tragic. We all cope in different ways. This short film shows how someone chooses to cope with comedy, but in the most inappropriate place. By the end, we learn how to let go. From The Projector is an important, experimental story to be shared. Production launches in May, and will be released on YouTube this summer! Festivals will follow. Together we can create something special.

Short Summary

My name is Nolan Ekberg, I am a filmmaker as young as they get. I have had an interest for stories ever since I started making comedic YouTube videos when I was ten years old. Since then, I have made four dramatic and/or comedic short films, and this would be my most ambitious production.

I didn't put pen to paper until I realized that I want to make a film about something. And I took months to figure that out, and what I realized is that I wanted to make a short film about memories. More importantly, how we cannot change those memories and how we must learn to accept them.

The film is one long monologue where Mateo, a young teen eulogizes his best friend and uncle. We learn about their whole life in this short monologue where when Mateo is unable to accept his death, he copes with treating his Uncle's funeral as his own personal stand-up routine.

This project is important to me because I truly believe in the message of the film. And I feel that if we can raise this budget, we can create something truly special.  This story needs to be shared with anyone who has lost someone close to them, so we can all see a... different way to cope with loss.

What We Need & What YOU Get

For this film to be made we need to meet the (flexible) goal of $1,250 USD. The money will be carefully dedicated towards certain items and categories.

Equipment: Renting cinema cameras and lenses, lights and stands, microphones and dollies to create the most professional looking short for the budget.

Costumes/Props/Sets: In order to create an authentic and genuine environment, we will be renting and purchasing customized costumes for our characters and will be dressing a funeral home. On top of that, we will be building and dressing a small hospital set.

Cast & Crew: Catering to feed the cast and crew, equipment to make their jobs easier, etc.

Post Production & Musical Composer(s):  The ending of the film requires visual effects assets alongside of a rich soundscape. Working with a composer to make a unique and fitting musical soundtrack and score for this film to elevate the emotions even higher.

Any donation if HIGHLY appreciated, without you this wouldn't be possible. But, certain donation amounts will receive certain perks and rewards, as listed to the right.

If we do not achieve our goal, then the film could still very well be made. We would just need to cut down on the more or less unnecessary equipment, unnecessary costume choices and make a few changes to the script. This will of course result in a less believable film, but it's doable.

Risks & Challenges

No film project comes without EVERY risk and challenge you could think of. With this budget, it will help eliminate these and make the set a happier and easier environment so our creative minds can flow.

  • Find a lead actor(s)
  • Create camera rigs for difficult places
  • Acquire complex locations and sets
  • Making the film the best possible in the Editing Room

I have learned from my previous budgeting mistakes and now know how to use your generous donations to the fullest potential. You're in good hands.

I have carefully been outlining how to use this money and how to accomplish and crush these difficult tasks for months now. It won't be easy, but together we can see this story told.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you cannot make a donation, there are still ways you can help! The best way to help would be to share this page with other friends and family who would be interested, and spread the word!

Thank you so much for considering this project, you're making this a reality!
