Gale had achieved its fundraising goal!

We are incredibly honoured, moved, and grateful to have exceeded our $5 000 goal within the first 30 hours of our campaign launch! If you have recently found our film or still wish to support or earn a reward tier, we are still graciously accepting donations! Additional funds will allow us to expand and support our team as well as aid us in festival submissions. Gale is an original story that follows Gran, a lonesome yet unwavering matriarch whose trust is put to the test when her isolated wartime village is inadvertently destroyed by a giant construct of tile and canvas named Gale. Although the child-like gentle giant is frightening at first, she proves to be eager and ready to help clean up her mess. The rest is up to Gran, who must be willing to let her guard down and welcome an outsider to her community before any progress is made.

Gale is a story for those left behind when the ones they love must venture out into the world. Gran's relationship with Gale when they eventually say goodbye reflects that of a parent, too scared to let go of a child who has changed their life forever. In that same vein, Gale is for those who have had to leave the place they call home to pursue their heart’s desire. Our story reflects just how much a supportive home can help its members grow and change.

WRITER, DIRECTOR, and LEAD ANIMATOR: Sean Kim

Sean is a Korean-Portuguese filmmaker and animator born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. As a self-taught animator and graphic artist, his artistic interests have always focussed on the blending of human and fantastical stories. With Gale, he is incredibly excited to bring this style not only to the animated medium but to the larger student film landscape.

PRODUCER: Chloe Di Salle

Chloe is a Canadian filmmaker and a long-time fan of animation. Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, she has established herself as a producer within TMU and worked on multiple professional sets in Vancouver. 

Chloe has always loved stories of whimsy and fantasy and would love to help bring Sean’s beautiful story to life. 

SOUND DESIGNERS: William Peng and Marcus Chen

Having focused on sound throughout their years at film school, William and Marcus feel ready to tackle the challenges of sound design for an animated film. They are extremely excited to work on ‘Gale’ as it offers unparalleled creative freedom in shaping the soundscape and provides a unique opportunity to bring such a fantastical creature to life. They hope to make the countless hours in sweaty editing suites truly pay off.

EDITOR: Shay Elbaum

Shay Elbaum is a long-time picture editor and close creative partner of the director Sean Kim. He has had a passion for editing since he was a young boy, editing short trailers for himself, and has continued that passion into the filmmaking world editing several short films throughout his TMU career. He is very excited to work on Gale, a film he strongly believes in and can't wait to see come to fruition.

Your donations are what make this movie possible. We are aiming to raise $5000 for this project through crowdfunding. The funding raised here will go towards our animation crew costs in order to ensure a safe and fair working environment.
