Our Story:
The Other Theatre Company is a 501c3 Non-Profit Theatre Company based in Chicago. We are collective of artists dedicated to telling stories of those who are othered by systems of oppression.
Next Up: Our incredible spring show - The Chicago Premiere of "Threesome" by Yussef El Guindi, starring Sadieh Rifai, Demetrios Troy, and Mike Tepeli. Directed by Jason Gerace.
Leila and Rashid, Egyptian Americans with ties to Cairo, attempt to solve their relationship issues by inviting a relative stranger into their bedroom to engage in a threesome. What begins as a hilariously awkward evening soon becomes an experience fraught with secrets, raising issues of sexism, possession and independence.
Why this story is important:
This play is more relevant now than ever before. Despite the racy title and humorous first act - the second half of this play isn't so funny. "Threesome" is an examination of the mistreatment of women in male-dominated societies. It deals with the aftermath of sexual assault - and it touches on the ramifications of living in our war-torn world. Threesome explores the pain of lost hope, both politically and interpersonally, which will resonate with so many of our audience members right now.

THREESOME COSTS:
Performance Space Rental: $7,200
Equity Wages for TWO AEA performers + Health and Pension + Paymaster fees + 1 Non-Equity Performer + Production Team/Designers/Management: $13,340
Scenic Budget + Costumes + Makeup + Lighting + Props + Publicity + Marketing Fees: $6,950
As you can see - we need all the help we can get! We're only in our third season, and almost 100% of our funding comes from private donations and ticket sales. While we are consistently applying for grants, it can be incredibly difficult for a young company to receive that type of funding. We need YOU!
