Science outreach blog Fuck Yeah Fluid Dynamics, written by aerospace engineering PhD student Nicole Sharp, strives to bring fluid dynamics to a general audience with new posts about the physics of all that flows every weekday. Unfortunately, sequester-related research funding cuts mean that I won't be able to attend the American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics (APS DFD) meeting--a major source of inspiration and material for FYFD--without your help!

What Is Needed

My goal is to raise $2000. This will cover the cost of airfare, transportation, lodging, conference registration, meals, and other expenses. Any funds raised beyond that goal will be put toward improving FYFD and expanding the website's outreach activities.

What You Get

I am already scheduled to give two talks at APS and every contributor, regardless of the size of their donation, will be included in both presentations. For those who pitch more into the hat, though, there are some fun FYFD-themed perks including digital wallpapers, stickers, and even the chance to get your name on the FYFD website as a special donor!

The Impact

I have three goals for attending APS:

  1. Tell the fluid dynamics community about FYFD's success in inspiring high-school and undergraduate-aged students to study fluid dynamics.
  2. Share my first-of-their-kind measurements of surface roughness effects on hypersonic aerodynamics.
  3. Gather material and contacts for future FYFD content (both written posts, and, hopefully, FYFD-produced videos)
By contributing, you will not only give me the opportunity to present my work to the academic community, but you'll be directly helping improve FYFD with new material.

Other Ways You Can Help

Please help spread the word and boost the signal, whether it be on Tumblr, Facebook, Google+, Twitter, or anywhere else. Thank you for your help!
