More and more, extremists are using social media for hateful purposes. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat are being used as weapons of war to spread an extremist ideology, and to radicalize men, women and children all around the world.

The team at the Digital Mass Atrocity Lab (DMAP Lab) believes that engagement, not censorship, is the best way to counter extremism and radicalization on social media.

Global Youth Ambassadors Against Digital Extremism

That's why we want to launch the Global Youth Ambassadors Against Digital Extremism Project.

The objective is to engage youth across the world to speak up and "share up" against online hate and how it leads to crimes against humanity.

We think that there is a need for a bottom-up initiative, which values the youth's own critical judgement of extremism, and trusts in their ability to create a global network of young leaders who will work to make the internet a vehicle for peace.

We believe in the power of young global citizens (yes, you) to take a stand,  connect and be heard and change the world for the better.

This is why the DMAP Lab needs your support and involvement: we need to create the digital infrastructure, and challenge youth around the world to be part of the solution. #No2DigitalExtremism will be our rallying call.

What we will do with funds raised

Identify young leaders and invite them do be a voice of change, feature them on our social media accounts and empower them.

  • Hold a series on online events to brainstorm and find solutions with Global Youth Ambassadors.
  • Organize a major conference in Canada on what can be done to counter online extremism, and invite Global Youth Ambassadors to participate.

About the DMAP Lab

The Digital Mass Atrocity Prevention Lab is based at the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.*

We are a policy hub and idea incubator working to combat genocidal ideologies online and work as a counter force against extremists and their ideologies.

In addition to the Global Youth Ambassadors Against Digital Extremism, we are currently working on:
