It is my vision to open a place of worship in the inner city based in music and the arts where all are welcome. Rather than just those that are saved, I want to go to the highways and byways and invite EVERYONE to come in. I believe that music, genuine fellowship and parable based teaching are the keys to making this a reality.
I have found the perfect building in a depressed neighborhood in Chicago. It is a commercial mixed-use property with a storefront venue and a residential living space. I will have to pay to live somewhere, and it is my plan to pay the bills of this building as my living space and provide the church space for community use without requiring outside support. I have applied for and received tax exempt status from the state of Illinois.
The building is a foreclosure owned by a bank and for sale for $77,000. The building is in exceptional shape and is likely worth much more than this asking price. I have a down payment of $25,000 and a regular income of nearly $2,000 a month from which I can make payments.
**** UPDATE: i met with commercial loan people at my bank today and applied for and obtained a tax payer ID (EIN). i am now officially a business and so can apply for a business mortgage. tomorrow we meet again and i will apply for the mortgage...the person working with me thinks she can make it happen. praise the lord! ****
***UPDATE: the above mortgage was turned down without consideration because it was too small for thier minimum.***
***UPDATE: god's great provision has contributed without obligation. this will allow a low ball offer on the property. i have spoken with the realtor and our bid for $55,000 goes in on president's day. thank you lord***
