Update 4-12-12:

We've reached our goal, but we're not done yet!

Since we've started this campaign there's been hundreds of hours of work put into the course and it's starting to show, before we've even seen the money from this campaign! We're only just getting started.

Hole 14

Hole 14: Mowed and grass re-seeded and grown up. Notice Golden Gate Hill in the background, mowed and weeded for the first time! Go up and see the bridge!

Hole 15 Before

Hole 15 - End of March

Hole 15: The before shot was taken 2/7. The after was taken 3/30.

New Vortex with new pin mount

One of the new concrete pin locations to  prevent theft and make swapping pin positions easier. This also provides more protection and easier maintenance for the pin sleeves. This one features Arroyo's new Vortex target and is our practice basket!

...but, we're not done!

With additional donations, we can finish Phase 1 ahead of schedule and start in on Phase 2 earlier than planned.

Highlights and first priorities of Phase 2:

-Building up the tier and wall on 18 between pin positions B and C.

-Stabilizing "The Stump" 11-B and building stairs to ease disc retrieval and save the stump from further damage.

-Continuing growing the grass and weedeating and other general landscaping duties. The entire front 9 is starting to sprout and needs extra care and attention to make sure we grow it into the finest manicured fairways this sport has seen.

Update 4-9-12:

The blog is active! Check out the updates at GGPDiscGolf.wordpress.com for the latest on what's going on daily at the course!

2012 Marks the 5th anniversary of the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course being in the ground.

While this is a milestone for the San Francisco Disc Golf Club, as well as the sport in general, we feel we can make this course even better in 2012.

Since the course was installed, the section of the park (Marx Meadow) has become safer and more popular. The course brings people from all walks of life, and of all skill levels, to enjoy the beauty and the comraderie that comes with being a part of a disc golfing community.

So, we need to improve our course. Our top 5 priorities are:

Preventing erosion and loss of plant life is an ongoing task which requires hours of labor and attention. To combat this natural walls and erosion barriers will be installed, composed of naturally downed branches and debris from the course itself.

Some Pin locations need a new concrete job to secure the baskets in the ground, most urgently 1A, 13B, 8B, 11B, 18C, and 14A

Some teepads and waiting areas are on slopes, so to prevent erosion from heavy foot traffic, the areas need to be built up and proper drainage installed.

Weed trimming/mowing on slopes to increase visibility in the rough and improve course flow/speed of play on weekends.

Growing grass on the fairways where heavy foot traffic and course use has reduced it to dirt.

There's Good News!

We have a small, but dedicated task force that vigilantly watches over our course and works hard to prepare it for our charter review later this year.

Spearheaded by Innova Touring Pro Patrick Brown, the team has already made great strides to enhance the quality and beauty of our beloved Golden Gate Park DGC.

The San Francisco Disc Golf Club has allocated  funds from membership dues to provide support in the form of raw materials and equipment for the ongoing work.

What we need:

Support through funding to keep the workers on the course full-time, providing for and serving the rapidly growing disc golf community in San Francisco and the greater Northern California region.

Through their tireless work and dedication, the Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course will be the premiere free public course in the United States and the standard by which all other courses, private and public, will be judged in the future.
