Summary
Gone Fishing is a short, family drama that follows the story of Ethan and Chloe, an estranged father and daughter, examining the ways that they must deal with their feelings of anger and bitterness surrounding their past failings.
This story is an intimate telling of this tender moment in their lives and its truthful and unashamed nature is refreshing and intriguing in its honesty. Families and relationships are messy, but 'Gone Fishing' causes us to examine both the values and challenges and the harmonious ways they work together. It's that connection and relationship with each other that makes us human.
Our goal with this project is to tell an engaging and thought-provoking story in a visual and cinematic way. That's where you come in. For the moment, Ethan and Chloe's story lives within the pages of our script and to make it a reality, we need your help.
Any donations that you provide will go towards:
- Hiring cast
- Locations and Transport
- Equipment Hire
- Catering costs for both cast and crew
- Art Department for sets, props, and costumes
- Publicity and film festival entry costs
With your help, this story can become a tangible film.

Character Bios
Chloe
A 25 year-old woman, she has long brown hair, and brown eyes like her father, Ethan. She has a successful career working in recruitment and is well-dressed, whilst still remaining practical. She and Ethan were close during her childhood, but drifted away as she grew older and their interests changed.
Gone Fishing tells her story of reuniting with her father after 4 years of being apart and over the course of the film, Chloe struggles with whether she can trust him after all this time. She must learn to overcome her feelings of anger towards him, striving to learn the truth about what went wrong between them.
Ethan
A 52-year-old ex-carpenter, he has slightly greying brown hair and brown eyes, like his daughter Chloe. He enjoys the outdoors and living a quiet life, he spends most of his time fishing on the lake behind his cottage. As his only child, Ethan cares deeply about Chloe and wants to reconnect with her after the 4 years they have been estranged.
Ethan’s attitude in Gone Fishing is wary and edged with bitterness, and whilst he shows affection towards Chloe, these emotions taint it. Over the course of the film, Ethan must try to determine whether he can trust her and if they have a chance at rebuilding their relationship.

Visual Style
The backdrop and locations for the film are such an integral part of the story and we, as a team, have spent a long while trying to gauge the tone and style that we want to get across in the finished project. We even sent some of the team up to the Brecon Beacons to get some images for inspiration.

The two key locations for the film are the lake, and Ethan's cottage, below is a concept drawing from our incredibly talented Production Designer to give you an idea of what our ideal cottage would look like. We're currently looking at a few locations in South Wales that we think will really fit with our vision. Be sure to watch out for updates both on this page and our social media accounts as we continue our location searches!
