Shortly after she passed away on December 30, 2012, Gordana’s students gathered to make Loving and Leaving: Tracing Passages of the Heart—a performance collectively developed to celebrate her life, teaching and art. This project was made possible in part by the support of the Edmonton Arts Council.
Now, a year after the performance, we gathered again to collectively curate Gordana’s retrospective exhibition, Passages of the Kino Eye.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
Your donation will help fund the making of this exhibition. All contributing artists have donated their time and work, so funds will be going directly towards production costs. Specficially:
- Equipment purchases
- Printing of the catalogue
- Installation supplies
The catalogue is the biggest expense we're facing. Gordana touched the lives of many people and we want to ensure that we can sell the catalogue at an affordable price so that everyone can take one home. It is a lasting object in which we have inserted traces of her presence in the minds and works of those whose life she touched – individual and collaborative work produced by students and colleagues, interviews, artifacts from past performances, work she started that other hands finished, and a short biography written by her husband, Marko Zivkovic.
KINO EYE
Passages of the Kino Eye displays a selection of work from the last seven years of Gordana’s life culminating in her ‘cinematic cycle’ where she explored convergences between film and painting. The kino eye was both a camera and a projector for Gordana. For us it is a window through which we catch a glimpse into the movie theatre of her mind.
AFTERLIFE
Alongside Gordana’s own, we are presenting work that reveals the ways in which Gordana persists in our art and in our lives. We are conduits, we are passages. We are floating dandelion seeds. We are her afterlife.
