About Us:

Green Matters Apparel Company is dedicated to sustainability and the customer. We believe that fashionable and sustainable apparel does not have to be ridiculously priced, and can be provided for similar prices to the unsustainable products already on the market. We plan to start off small and master the basic tee, then move on to creating other products to expand our apparel line. Before we do that, we want to see if you care. By donating $30, you will receive one of the t-shirts below.

The Impact:

Clothing production is not commonly tied to water pollution, but the fact of the matter is that 20% of the world's water pollution comes from the textile industry. That is an unsettling number considering all of the other industries in the world. By purchasing our t-shirt over traditional t-shirts made with synthetic dyes, you are directly reducing the amount of harmful chemicals used for clothing production. Join us as we strive to create sustainable apparel that is not only good for the environment, but also fashionable and affordable for you.

Our Team:
Winona Quigley:

Winona is a senior at Parsons, The New School for Design located in New York City. She learned the importance of sustainability in everyday life, and was inspired to use her passion of fashion and design for the greater good. Winona has spent countless hours practicing and experimenting with different natural dyeing techniques on a hemp, cotton, silk, wool, and polyester. She is the expert behind the t-shirt.

Tyler Stoltzfus (the guy in the video):
Tyler is a senior at the Fox School of Business in the entrepreneurship program.  He is responsible for the business side of Green Matters Apparel Company. Tyler submitted the idea in Temple's Innovative Idea Competition in Fall 2015 and received First Place.

Jacob Andrews:
Jacob is an Entrepreneurship and Economics major at Temple. Jacob grew up around fashion and sustainable practices and finds it important for everyone to minimize their impact and do what they can to live a sustainable life. He has been a real help behind the scenes with crunching numbers and conducting research. Jacob will be graduating in 2018 and will officially join the team when finished school.

Our Greenhouse:
This past summer we built a greenhouse for growing the plant materials needed for our dyes. We grew our first yield of marigolds this past winter. Take a look at some pictures from start to finish.

Where does the money go?
The money you donate will go straight into production. We are not looking to raise money, but simply gauge the interest of you, the consumer. We are convinced this is a great idea, but ultimately, the decision is up to you. The concept is simple. For every contribution of $30, you receive one of our t-shirts. You can specify what cut, color, and size you would like. We will make the t-shirts this summer (2016) and have them to you no later than August 31, 2016.

DETAILS FOR ORDERING:
When you contribute $30, send an email to greenmattersapparelco@gmail.com and specify which of the 3 colors you would like (Iron Green, Marigold, Madder), size, and cut (women's/men's). Make sure you DO NOT select anonymous. We need to be able to link your email to the actual contribution.

*There may be slight variances in the actual color compared to colors above

Challenges:
Just like with any other new venture, there are always unforeseen challenges when turning an idea into a functioning business. First of all, we have to see if what we are selling is actually a product you desire. Also, we have not produced our t-shirts on a large scale, so there is bound to be challenges in actual production. We are giving ourselves the summer to work out the bugs. Let's say you order a t-shirt in June. We may mess up once or twice in fulfilling your order, but we will have your t-shirt to you by August 31st which will give us plenty of time to fix our mistakes.

Other Ways You Can Help:
You may not have $30 to spend on a t-shirt, but you do have a voice. If this is a product you believe in, you can help us by donating in any way you can and also spreading the word! Let your friends and family know what we are doing and don't be afraid to share us on Facebook.
