The Museum on Tower Hill is Going Green!
The Museum was founded in 1983, as the West Parry Sound
District Museum, by a group of local citizens who realized that a community
museum would not only enhance the quality of life in the area but would also
provide a cultural resource to a wide spectrum of local residents. Our mandate
was established as: To ensure the rich
history of the district be preserved and interpreted for generations to come.
The Museum serves as an important link between the
community and its heritage and therefore, it is of the utmost importance that
this mandate is carried out. At an
impressive 31 years in business, we take pride in the fact that the mandate
continues to be at the forefront of all that we do.
To continue to follow this mandate, the Museum is
actively retrofitting its facility to become environmentally responsible, as
well as educating the community about sustainable practices. Our first
initiative is to purchase and install a new HVAC system. It is important for
museums to have control of the interior climate as artifacts need to be kept in
regulated temperature and humidity zones in order for them to be accurately
preserved.
By donating to the Museum, your funds go towards
transforming the facility into an environmentally responsible building so that
we are able to continue to preserve and present our heritage for generations to
come.
The founders of the Museum had a dream that is shared by
the dedicated board, volunteers and staff today. Help us keep the dream alive.
Donate today. Here's to another 30 years!

How Will Your Donation Be Spent?
All donations will be used to retro fit the Museum to
become a showcase of sustainable energy. Guided by organizations, such as the
Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve, the Museum is beginning by replacing one of its
most important resources, the HVAC sytem, with a greener option.
The 20 year old Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
system that preserves the artifacts and archives is being replaced with one
that will operate on geothermal energy, reducing the Museum’s ecological footprint.
Thus, effectively preserving not only the artifacts within the building, but
the beautiful wilderness that the people whose history we preserve proudly
choose to call home.
In the event that our goal of $5,000 is not met, any
donations that have been received will still go towards our efforts to retro
fit the museum with sustainable energy resources.
