Short Summary
Hello, I'm Cheo Martinez and I've traveled the world, built houses, raised a family, I've done everything! I wrote this story over the last three years to talk about the state of our society.
As a foreigner I had the opportunity in America to cross so many social boundaries. I have enjoyed the chance to share different views and lifestyles with so many wonderful people in our culture. These experiences inspired me to write this script. It is about the search for some sense of balance in our emotions and belief systems and bringing people together from different walks of life.
I noticed after President Obama was elected that a lot of tension developed, and some people had the illusion that they were losing their country. It happened again after the Trump election. I thought about how as a country we win and lose our ideas of representation and how the election process can create animosity and division.
That doesn't need to happen. We can choose to not allow the politics of difference to divide us. Our differences can be our strength. We all seem to be institutionalized by our own belief systems without any regard to other’s belief systems. My hope is that the film will help people from different sides of the track to question their own perceptions of themselves and others. To live in such a beautiful place as an American and have such potential is amazing! It is so beautiful to be able to move around and celebrate each other and ourselves. We must be truthful with ourselves. We can build on our similarities instead of our differences. Start with being human and give each other some breathing room.
An American road movie told from the point of view of a foreigner, "HARD AS LUCK" follows a father traveling the country trying to reconnect with his son and repair his relationship with his son’s mother. Finding himself surrounded by deep cultural differences, his life drastically changes. He is forced into an intense situation where he is thrown together with unexpected characters from unexpected backgrounds.
I have casted and crewed the film with amazing and creative friends I've met in the movie industry. We are ready to shoot this film. We now just need the funds to make it happen. I set up this IndyGoGo campaign so that you can join our friends who are actively backing us. Aren't you glad you found us?
By contributing to the film, your funding will help push the awareness that we are all similar through our differences. This project will allow us to show that celebrating our differences can help bring people together.
What We Need & What You Get
We need $300,000 to shoot, edit, and distribute the film. Gosh that's a lot of money!
Movies are a big business. To attract the big fish necessary to fund the film we need to show that:
(1) We have attracted talent to the project
AND
(2) International supporters, that's you, are interested in the film.
We have set up this campaign with a realistic goal of raising a hundred grand ($100,000) in 60 days (two months).
To incentivize you to see this through, we have some good karma aligned for you.
Pledgers will receive Special Thank You Shirts, IMDB credits, and the usual perks; PLUS, opportunities to be in the film!
Check out the perk descriptions over there on the right side of this page for a full list.
The funds will go towards production, whether we reach our goal or not. You can rest secure in knowing that your hard-earned money is pushing along a great film.
The Impact
People who see the film will look at themselves and have some self-reflection. Hopefully we get to provide the opportunity for audience members to recognize themselves in the characters and hopefully empower a few people to enjoy the process of questioning themselves. Ideally, we are creating a better America where we can all feel free to be ourselves, coming out of our shells with love.
Risks & Challenges
Our cast and crew are busy working professionals, some are even famous, and their schedules fill up quickly. We must secure the funds for our cast and crew, so they are able to set aside time to shoot the film and to guarantee their participation
