Hi – thanks for taking the time to read my story. My name is Emory Moe, although most people simply call me Emo. I’m a musician from San Diego, California. I recently underwent open heart surgery to repair a valve in my heart. The surgery was successful, and I’m very grateful to be alive, however my out-of-pocket expenses have been exorbitant. This is compounded by the fact that I haven’t been able to perform since mid-December, and as a musician this means I have had no income whatsoever. Simply put, when musicians don’t show up to play, they don’t get paid. Going without any source of income is non-sustainable just for normal living expenses, but it’s the medical expenses that have prompted me to ask for your help.
I’ve had to go into debt to pay all these bills, but because I’m not a greedy person, and I’d always prefer to pay my own way in life, I’m only asking for about half of what my medical expenses are. Whether I exceed my goal or don’t reach it, every penny raised will go towards those outstanding bills. My surgery took place at the end of December, and my 8-day hospital stay extended into the first week of January. What that means is that the deductible on my insurance had to be met twice, once for each year. I’ve had to carry a very high deductible in an effort to make my premiums more affordable. (“Affordable” and “Medical Insurance Premiums” are definitely conflicting terms!) It’s been especially difficult not being able to earn any income this year. In California, unemployment benefits and disability insurance are unavailable to the self-employed.
Please check out the perks I’m offering, below. My offering to the world is my music, and my offering to you as a contributor to my campaign is also my music. My main gig is as the bass player and vocalist for the classic rock band; The Brokers Band. (www.thebrokersband.com) This is a bunch of guys who happen to be great musicians in addition to truly wonderful people. Throughout my ordeal, including several months of being disabled, they have saved my position in the band. We’re now making plans for my comeback as soon as I’m able, and we’re all very much looking forward to that day. In addition to my commitment to The Brokers Band, I play classical guitar for quieter, mellower events. (www.emotheguitarguy.homestead.com)
Besides having a good bunch of guys in my band, I also have some wonderful friends who are organizing a fundraiser for me. This will be on June 1, 2013 at Larry’s Beach Club in Oceanside, California. There is sure to be some great entertainment, a silent auction, raffles, etc. I’m truly honored that among the performers will be Roni Lee, Mojo Nixon, Joey Harris and the Mentals, Samz Jam, Third Degree, and the Decades, in addition to The Brokers Band. Comedian L.G. Brown is set to MC the event. If you are able to attend, I will certainly be honored by your presence.
If you are able to contribute anything at all, I will be extremely grateful. Every penny will relieve the mountain of debt I have accrued. Whether you are able to contribute or not, please consider passing the word along to others using the share buttons below, sending email, word of mouth, or any means at your disposal. Every effort will be fully appreciated.
Thank you so much for your time and effort on my behalf. Please feel free to contact me with any questions at haveaheartforemo@gmail.com. Bless you all!
