Taking our hearts and using our hands to give hope.
The Hearts and Hands Clinic of Statesboro promotes healthy living and health education by providing free primary health services for the citizens of the Bulloch County community who are medically uninsured and have an income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guideline. Our purpose is not one of enabling, but to serve the community by providing support for individuals as they seek ways to better themselves. Together we take our hearts and use our hands to inspire by giving hope.
As a young organization, Hearts and Hands has experienced tremendous growth in direct services offered and support from the local medical community. Hearts and Hands is on track to continue exponentially increasing that figure by working collaboratively to meet the dire medical needs of the uninsured and low-income residents of Bulloch County, BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Hearts and Hands is 100% funded by grants and donations. As a free clinic, no fees are collected and services are donated but the equipment, labs, prescriptions, and facilities all come with a cost. To sustain the clinics' operations and ability to provide free care we are establishing new fundraising efforts like this one.
Your donation can make a difference to our community.
$26 covers the cost of a patient visit.
Just $5 can purchase life-saving supplies for patients with diabetes.
The generosity of donors like you is the reason our clinic can continue to serve this community.
As a member of the Board of Directors I have set a personal goal to raise $1,000 to donate to the clinic. Please help me to meet this goal.
More Information:
Hearts and Hands is a community-based volunteer clinic providing free medical, dental and vision services for medically uninsured adults residing in Bulloch County with an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guideline. Since its inception in 2009, Hearts and Hands has treated more than 1,000 local residents with more than 2,000 medical visits. 64 Local Medical Providers collaborate to care for this vulnerable population including 19 Primary Care Providers, 17 Dentists, 18 Specialists and 10 Nurses who see patients on a rotating basis at no charge. Hearts and Hands is unique as the only Volunteers in Medicine Alliance Clinic initiated by a group of Undergraduate-level students. This learning-centered foundation allows Hearts and Hands to partner with Georgia Southern University and Ogeechee Technical College, both of which send Faculty and Pre-Med, Pre-Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing and Medical Assisting students to volunteer on a weekly basis. A total of 20 administrative volunteers comprised of students and community members work weekly with Hearts and Hands’ director to ensure the successful operation of each clinic and appropriate patient application and follow-up procedures.
This year, Hearts and Hands has provided just under 500 primary care visits, performed 150 on-site laboratory clinicals, provided 125 on-site dental visits, 50 eye exams, 66 mammograms, 32 specialty referrals, and 17 women’s health exams. Of those, 100% of patients were medically uninsured and living at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty level.
