MARGIN OF ERROR
(or, the Unassailable Wisdom of the Mouse and the Scorpion)
by Eric Coble
Hello. My name is Matthew Cameron Clark. I have been putting plays on stage in Boise for twenty years and there are a couple of things that have remained consistent throughout those years: I do my very best to gather the smartest, most talented, big-hearted people I can to work together on each play, and . . .
. . . I can't do it without the support of this remarkable community.
Will you help me and BCT to bring the world premiere of this new play to the stage? MARGIN OF ERROR (or, the Unassailable Wisdom of the Mouse and the Scorpion) by Eric Coble will star Richard Klautsch and Veronica Von Tobel. I am directing and we begin rehearsals on March 22. Like every other professional non-profit theater production in this country, it wouldn't be possible without contributions from generous people like you.
Together we have built BCT . . .
. . . into a company with a national reputation for open collaboration, big ideas, and telling great stories. We have another story to tell now. It's smart and surprising. It's very funny. It will ask all of us to think about a few things in a new way. And it is as timely as anything we've ever done here.
This is the story of Harold Carver, the greatest political strategist the nation has ever known. But he’s running four floundering campaigns, his personal life and professional life face cataclysm and he has no one to help him but his wide-eyed intern, Daphne, all while stranded at Gate B16 in the Boise airport. It's a no-holds-barred look at how we choose our elected officials (and every other product) in our winner-takes-all world.
The playwright, Eric Coble, is also the author of THE VELOCITY OF AUTUMN, which had its world premiere at BCT in 2011 and went on to Broadway, starring Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons. His play GRAPHIC DEPICTIONS also premiered here at BCT and has gone on to a number of other productions across the country. For this play, MARGIN OF ERROR, Eric is the inaugural recipient of the BCT River Prize. We are mustering all the help we can to make this production a great one.
What we need & what you get
We are hoping to raise $15,000 over the next three weeks to help pay for this production. That number is less than 25% of what we will actually need to spend to bring this play to life. Ticket sales and other contributions that have already been made to BCT will cover the rest. So, we need your support to make this possible and we have put together some very cool perks to make it even more worth your while. If you can't donate, please share this on Facebook and help us to spread the word.
More about the BCT River Prize
The BCT River Prize was established by a generous leadership gift from Susan May and Andy Owczarek. It is an annual fellowship awarded to support a playwright in developing a new idea through the writing and workshop process into a full premiere production. Every play travels a unique course, beginning from the idea at its source. The River Prize provides the resources and openness to see where that course will take us.
