Short Summary
Hey everyone! My name is Emily, and I am a nursing student at the University of Virginia. I am passionate about healthcare and helping others. This year, I got involved with the Global Medical Brigades. This amazing organization travels to countries all over the world to provide healthcare to under served countries. In late December, I will be traveling to Ghana with a group from the Global Medical Brigades to provide healthcare to some of the small villages within the country. We will be setting up a clinic that will see several hundred people in the few days we are there. Also, we will be making door to door visits within the community to encourage people to ask us questions about healthcare and to learn more about the culture of the villages. For many of these people, this annual clinic is the only way they have access to healthcare. We have the ability to make a huge impact on many people's lives because of this clinic.
What We Need
I am trying to raise about $1,300 for this trip. This money will help cover the cost of airfare and supplies we need to set up this clinic. Even if I do not reach my fundraising goal, every little bit helps! The more supplies we bring to Ghana, the more people we can help!
The Impact
The Global Medical Brigades is an international organization that provides healthcare to many different countries. The University of Virginia's Global Medical Brigades has been making annual trips to Ghana for several years now, and we have partnered with UVA's Global Dental Brigades to set up a joint clinic in country. Providing healthcare to under served areas has a rippling effect of positive changes. For example, we can help prevent diseases, such as HIV and malaria, through public education, vaccination, and medication, all of which will be provided at no cost to the people who come through our clinic.
