Join us in our efforts to inspire a generation in the inner cities of Jamaica.
Jamaica is a land of extremes. On one end, there are wealthy Jamaicans who live in first-rate housing and enjoy an elevated standard of living. On the other hand, a significant number of poor Jamaicans live in squalor, with poor housing, limited food supply, and inadequate access to clean water, quality health care, or education. In the slum districts, violent youth gangs clash with inadequate police for control of the streets. This is where Citizens for the Advancement of Community Development (CACD) comes in. Our goal is to build and inspire a generation, the future of the Jamaican nation. CACD is planning a trip to Jamaica’s most at-risk neighbourhoods, where we are aiming to empower and inspire 1000 students. We aim to take 12 motivated and driven young leaders from the GTA to Jamaica and trigger a change. CACD wants to begin a revolution that will empower the Jamaican youth, build a solid educational framework teaching life skills for Jamaican teachers to use and build on for years to come and develop the community. Our framework will encompass a broad range of topics that will sow the seeds of a new generation of healthy, well-rounded and upwardly mobile Jamaicans, including healthy living, life skills, adult literacy, counselling and parenting, employment skills, entrepreneurship and money management. This will begin a domino effect where the Jamaican youth will adopt a sense of civic responsibility and develop leadership capabilities. We are going to bring an Ontario Peel Police officer to teach the local law enforcement about the Canadian Community Policing model which will help limit gang activity and help the community prosper. With a lack of community development within these neighbourhoods, CACD will help provide the essential presence that is missing from these communities. Bringing its efforts in the GTA to the inner cities of Jamaica, CACD will deploy teams of students who will offer innovative programs, tailored to the specific and unique needs of the Jamaican youth. Providing workshops that teach Life Skills, Employment Training, Community Based Policing, Health Promotion, Training in Computer, Sewing for skill trade development and Leadership Training, CACD plans to make a huge impact in the communities of Jamaica.
This trip will work to truly build awareness of the different components of life skills within our youth and greater appreciation of community involvement. It will enhance their problem solving skills and abilities and give them a greater sense of responsibility as a global citizen. Increasing self-actualization and leadership skills will prepare them for the world and help them flourish into better citizens and leaders. We need YOUR help to make this plan Jamaica by helping us raise $25,000. No dollar amount is too low! This will be an investment in the nation’s youth, and the wider global community.
