Who we are
Guessworks started life back in 2015 with a five star reviewed production of The Star Rover, made in collaboration with our friends Shedload Theatre (‘The sort of show that leaves you gasping for words that never fully materialise’ ★★★★★ edfringereview). We then performed a small scale production of Pirandello’s ‘The Man With the Flower in His Mouth’ at the Maddermarket Emerson Studio in Norwich. After a brief hiatus for life, love and drama school we are now back with new ideas and a mission statement to make theatre that is full of heart.
The show we’ve made
Our new show is called Son of Jim and it’s the real story of the discovery of a piece of buried family treasure. It goes a little something like this:
’One day, Dave was rooting through a desk drawer in his parents’ house when he came across an brown A4 paper envelope...he opened it to find a story, written three decades ago, by his dad...’ Thus began the strange journey into the mind of a parent, and a mission to fulfil the dreams of an unpublished primary school teacher.
It’s weird, it’s wonderful, it’s full of imagination, and it’s an affirmation of the bonds that tie fathers and sons together.
Here’s why we need you
We have our Edinburgh venue in place. We now need to raise the money to get the show there. Guessworks, like 99.9% of theatre companies, is a financially impoverished theatre company. Would we have it any other way? Yes, yes we would. But until the National Theatre comes knocking we rely on the support of friends to keep us alive!
We have a £3000 crowdfunding target.
This just covers our venue hire for the month (£2970), and the rest of our expenditure (Fringe registration, marketing materials, production costs) is self funded.
Every pound and penny that we receive goes towards the cost of our venue hire. And it makes a massive difference.
PERKS!
Here’s how we express our love to our backers:
We have badges!
We have prints of original artwork made for the show!
We have unique poems written especially for you!
We have free tickets available!
These things and stuff will be yours as a token of our massive appreciation.
