FringeNYC, Here We Come!
"Hard Day's Night" is the story of Kelly K. Kelly. All she craves is a normal life. Instead, she is trapped in a world full of Disney décor, pet ashes, Beatles' lyrics and one hell of a crazy family!
My name is Vicki Vodrey. I am a playwright and the owner of Lot In Life Productions in Kansas City, Missouri. Six years ago, I set a goal for myself of getting one of my plays into FringeNYC, the largest multi-arts festival in North America. After being an alternate last year with my play "Thank You Notes: Headed To Heaven W/ Flat Jimmy Fallon," I'm pleased to announce that this year, my play "Hard Day's Night" has been selected to be a participant! No one does this alone - I've had some of the best casts, creative teams and supporters that a producer/playwright could ask for. Yes, I've worked really hard. But if I didn't have people that so generously donated their talents, time and funds, I wouldn't have been able to finally reach that dream.
What We Need & What You Get!
In doing the budget, this production will cost between $8,000 to $9,000. The initial fee was $700. But I can tell you, that was the happiest I ever was to write a check in my life! The salaries for the cast and creative team will be at least $5,000. Rental for rehearsal space will be close to $1,000. There are ads to buy, promotional materials to make, costumes, set pieces and props to buy. We're only setting our goal at $3,000 even though it will cost much more. All of the funds go into the production itself, not to me. So, as you can see, we need your help! We have some perks which I hope will let you know how much we appreciate you and that we want to include you as much as possible. Because I wouldn't be getting my dream if it wasn't for my supporters.
Hard Day's Night had a great premiere at KC Fringe Festival last year. It garnered some wonderful reviews. I had some of the best talent in KC involved. If it hadn't been for our terrific director, cast and creative team, it wouldn't be the funny, quirky comedy/drama that it is!
I've had several shows in KC Fringe and the Midtown International Theatre Festival. All of the KC Fringe shows have had great audience attendance and received some great reviews. The two shows I had at the Midtown garnered a total of eight nominations. I truly believe that Hard Day's Night will make the Mid West proud!
With your support, we can have the outstanding production that we know it can be!
Risks & Challenges
It's difficult to stand out at a big festival. That's one reason we want to cast superb talent and pay them fairly. As a number of them will be union actors, the production will be done under the Actors' Equity Showcase Code, which also has a side letter with FringeNYC. We have auditions mid-June, and so far we've had almost 500 actors submit! I'll keep you posted! I'm getting all the great reviews and publicity Hard Days Night received last year together to send to Fringes' PR man. I'm confident that we'll make a great showing! And we have an awesome but complicated set - we'll be lugging stuffed Disney characters all over the Big Apple!
Other Ways You Can Help
We realize that not everyone can donate. But there are so many other ways you can help. Share this with your friends, have your NYC friends buy tickets to the show - we'll be forever grateful! Want to donate some frequent flyer miles? AWESOME!! Thank you so much for your help!
