Hey guys, I need your help if you are able to help. As you know I am a physics and computational mathematics major at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. I am legally blind and I was suppose to get money from the New York commission for the Blind. The commission for the blind told me to come out and they will help me with school so I came to Rochester, NY from Pensacola, FL, back in May to sign the papers and see an ophthalmologist to get the services they said I would get. After I did the intake they came and told me I need to be a New york state resident to get support for going to RIT. My housing at RIT, is over 7,000 year the year and my meal plan is over $860 a year. The commission for the blind said that in November I will be a New york state resident and they will help me but they said I should look for funding elsewhere. Now, my classes and fees are all paid for just not housing. I've been looking for off campus housing but I can not find anything because everything is booked and what is available is to much for me. Also, if I cancel the housing contract, I will have to pay a fee that is over $400. Moreover, it was hard to get into where I needed to be. Everything here is booked. If I loose this spot, there is not much of a chance I can stay on campus so it is important that I pay for housing. Also, I’ve never been to New york before and I hear the weather get really cold in western new York where I am. I need help with winter clothing as well.
Why should you help me you think to yourself? My goal in live is to work for NASA. I would like to come up with a good, original idea and teach it off to the next generation of explorers. In short, I am an explorer and I want to help humanity. We only life once and I want to use my time to try and better humanity and I believe I can do that in a science field. Furthermore, I am not here to waste your time. I am here because I want to change the way people think. I am a Trekkie and an astronomer.
Thank you for reading this.
I leave you with this. As the astronomer Jack Horkheimer would say "Keep looking up!".
