Griffin's Story:
One Day I was watching Metallica: Behind the Music on VH1, and right when Lars Ulrich started playing his TAMA drum set and talking about how fun it was, I knew that playing the drums was going to be my life passion. It was before my 10th birthday and I was already developing my taste for hard rock and heavy metal music by listening to bands like, AC/DC, Metallica, Van Halen, Megadeth, and Ozzy Osbourne. My parents, who are divorced, and my step-mom, all chipped some dough and bought my a Sound Percussion starter drum set when I was 11. Since then, my musical taste has changed to listening to more underground and progressive bands like Anthrax, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Biohazard, Deftones, Dream Theater, Helmet, The Jesus Lizard, KoRn, Pantera, Primus, Rage Against The Machine, Sepultura, Slayer, and Tool. I have also starter taking private drum lessons, started an alternative metal band, and joined my school marching band. And now, I have outgrown my starter drum set.
The Future: What does it hold?
I foresee myself performing in a thrash metal revival band in my adulthood. I am also looking into a drumming scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. A friend of my step-mom's is a singer in a heavy metal band and sent my YouTube drumming videos to her singer coach, original singer for the thrash/speed metal band Anthrax, Neil Turbin, who called me a “talented young blast beat drummerâ€. Those words alone have inspired me to work harder and harder, which I have been in the past year. Getting this drum set would be such a big help to launching my music path, and I have already saved $400 (I recently have been granted the permission to do yard work like mowing the lawn and using the weed wacker) to buy the set.
