CONQUERING OUR DREAMS
Over the past couple years we've been playing music all around South Florida. During that time we have played well over a hundred shows and have released two EPs. This upcoming December we will be recording our first full length album at Emissary Studios in Orlando, FL. We want this album to speak to people and relate to them in the same ways that our favorite bands, musicians, and artists have done with us. Because we have been preparing and writing songs for the album for the last 10 months, we absolutely believe that it will be our best and most unique work. We want to share it with our fans and anyone else who will iisten, but that will only happen if YOU help us raise the money to record it. Also, a percentage of the money we raise will be donated to a family we've known for a long time that helps run an orphanage in Burkina Faso, Africa. You can learn more about it at reachburkina.blogspot.com
THE IMPACT
Frequently, people tell us we're wasting our time and that little to no success can come from playing music. They also tell us that we're chasing a pipe dream of fame and fortune that only .0000002% of the population can hope to obtain. Well, the honest truth is that we don't care for fame and fortune. All we want is for our music to be heard and loved by those who hear it, and as musicians, any type of living that can be made from playing music is good enough for us.
The same people who doubt us also ask why we choose to struggle, sacrifice, and put our entire lives into this band. The answer is simply this - We play music because it is our love, joy, passion, our release, our medicine, and our escape.
WHO WE ARE
Marcella Rose is an Alternative Punk band based out of Miami, Florida. The original beginnings of the band came from its two founders, John Fox and Angel Estremera. The two had been childhood friends and formed a tight bond in high school through their love of punk rock music. Though John had only played piano while growing up, he decided to learn guitar after playing "I Miss You" by Blink 182. With Angel primarily playing the bass guitar, they jammed with local drummers throughout high school and even played as a three-piece band for a few shows. Through a local church group, Angel found Brandon Cross, and he auditioned for the band as lead guitarist. Instantly winning over his fellow musicians with the skills acquired to achieve shredding licks, he joined.
In December 2009, the first solid lineup was initiated. John sang lead vocals and played rhythm guitar, Angel held it down on the bass and backup vocals, Brandon shredded on lead guitar, and a high school friend played drums. Marcella Rose finally had the pieces in place to start spreading their uniquely melodic sound to the masses.
Through the remaining year of 2010, Marcella Rose began to play at various venues and house shows around South Florida. By then, the band was ready to get their first few song ideas out on a CD. In the fall of 2010, they recorded their first EP, Lumberjack, in Atlanta, Georgia, at Stonehenge Recording which is home to various recording artists like Chris Brown, Will.I.Am, Ne-Yo, R-Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, and many more. In late 2010, Marcella Rose auditioned for a permanent drummer, and after many auditions they choose Kameron Hunter, a former high school classmate.
They worked very hard in 2011, playing shows anywhere and everywhere. The lineup was beginning to click and create great chemistry, and the band released a second EP in 2012 entitled Fall Into the Sun, which was their first collective set of musical compositions.
Marcella Rose is influenced by a very interesting variety of musical artists. Lead singer John Fox says his main influences are the harmonies of Blink 182 and the heavy chug of System of a Down. Bassist Angel Estremera's driven bass style comes from his love of Blink 182, the Smashing Pumpkins, and late 90's Alternative Rock. Guitarist Brandon Cross' says his influences stem from his love of Synyster Gates shredding, blended with a bluesy, Jimi Hendrix tone. Drummer Kameron Hunter loves indie music and loves to smash on his drum set with the angst of teenage hardships.
