My Story
My
name is Vivian Torres and I need help to be able to fund my
university studying in order to be who I want to be.
Since I can remember I have been
wanting to study Engineering. I used to play with my dad's
electronics devices, try to fix everything that was broken, pull
apart all sort of things, fix the Christmas lights, the broken
printers and many others things. I was just born to do it.
I was born in Colombia (South America) and proud of it, a country that
as beautiful and inspiring as it is, it's also full of tough and
heart-breaking stories, some of which, I, myself had to experience.
They were all very hard lessons through which I, grew a better
person.
I arrived in Australia in
2009 aged 17, thanks to an unmeasurable sacrifice from my family. I
was leaving my family for the first time to come to a wonderful land
where I had no family and no one I knew. I arrived with an unmovable
determination, an incorruptible honesty and a burning wish to make my
dream come true. I knew, since I left the airport back in Colombia,
that there was no going back, no giving up. Australia and Engineering
was (and still is) my dream and this is my chance, my
once-in-a-life-time opportunity.
At the time of writing I hold a
student visa (573) that states I was to finish a 2-year course at
Holmesglen TAFE and then continue my studies to become an engineer at
Deakin University (VIC).
This was my plan but unpredictable
and terribly timed situations presented that stopped me from being
able to afford the fees for university: an armed robbery that left me
and my family traumatised, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and
her business just stopped getting orders, my sister was badly bashed
at school as a result of bullying and she had to change schools
several times which put my parents in economical difficulties, I was
admitted to hospital for a week for a nasty appendicitis, the list of
careers on demand from the department of immigration changed
dramatically and I was declined a sponsorship from my employer at the
time because they couldn't meet all the requirements and I was
diagnosed with major depression.
The Impact
Despite
all this and the fact that I work part-time for no more than 20 hours
a week (which is what I am allowed to work) I managed to keep my
school results to an average of 7.0
Is this why, I was motivated to write
this letter, because the thought of not being able to continue
studying and therefore see my dream shatter right before my eyes is
just terrifying. I am a great student, a fantastic worker and an
outstanding individual. I stand by my morals and my work ethic, I am
committed to what I set my heart on and I am driven by my will and my
determination.
What We Need & What You Get
I, hereby, pray that you help me make
my dream come true, to do whatever you can and wish to do to help me
be able to fund my studies for university. I am willing to
demonstrate and prove all that I've said, I have proof of legal and
medical documentation that supports all I have written. I genuinely
want to stay in Australia and want to study Engineering.
But I need your help.
